It appears that I am one of the only ones that has a decent running stock truck. I have been following the ov threads for months anticipating buying 1.04. The problem is my truck has never hunted gears in nearly 20k miles. It is certainly not a race tune from the factory but it runs really well. I get great mpg in town and on the highway and, since I had the rev1 flash 18 months ago, there are no shift issues. I can count on 1 hand how many hills I climbed where it made it to over 3000 rpm without upshifting in 2.5 years. I will say that since rev1 I drove it like I stole it and I believe that helped the learning of the ecu. I will also admit that Atkinson belongs in a little car and not in a Tacoma. It has periods of sluggish performance but that is based on grandma driving. 90% of the time when I stomp it the thing takes off. One thing I avoided during the relearn was allowing it to find 5th or 6th gear under 40 mph. It only does that if I baby it up to speed. As long as I am somewhat aggressive the gears shift when I expect them to. I was planning on having the tune by now but I am going to give it another 6 months. I really would prefer waiting until I pass the stock warranty. Time will tell. The bottom line is that I got very lucky with my factory truck and am still a holdout for the tune.

I am back in town as of 2 days ago (not in VA yet). Will be sending out more files tonight.
Next step is dissecting Toyotas new TCU code. No ETA on how long it will take, likely a few days.

I appreciate the patience everyone. I hope to get through toyotas new update as fast as possible to implement this as a standard update in all tune files for 1.05.
Which means there likely will need to be a 2nd version of 1.05 with the new TCU (along with my new TCU developments) and setup for best efficiency. Have not yet decided the approach yet on that. But I figure it is better than sending out revised 1.04s..

Thanks Toyota. (I still love this truck)

I have talked with Magnuson is what I meant :)

Mine was pretty tolerable on the stock tire size, but when I lifted and went to 285/75s it quickly started to annoy me. It almost feels like it is pre rev1 and I hope the ovtune makes it more enjoyable again.

@OVTune, since you are going to be dissecting the new TCU code for a bit, is it okay for me to flash my truck back to 1.04 yet or do I need to wait?

Looking to buy a 2019 Tacoma SR5 DCSB 4X4 by this time next year. There are still a few 2015 4.0' 4x4s available for around $30,000 with approximately 15,000 to 20,000 miles on them, just in case I go that route. I drove a customers 2017 3.5 last week & I have to say that my '08 4.0 Prerunner drove better (referring to trans shifting) & my 4.0 "feels" a bit torqueir but I'd like to buy NEW so I'll be checking this thread & what ever TSB update Toyota comes up with by then as well. I've read that the 2018's have an overall better factory tune the the 2016's. I like the look of the 3rd gen, I don't care about MPG's, I don't care about any tech stuff, but I would like for it to drive & "feel" AT LEAST as good as my 4.0. I have absolutely no issues with my Prerunner but I want 4x4 & new, or at least newer than my '08.

From what I've read so far @OVTune "Matt" is the man!

You can't go back. Your ecu and tcu are both new.

New ECU ID 04B04 (updated from 04B03)

I will let you know when it's ready. After 04B04 is fully supported I will port all of toyotas code updates into older ones (04B02,04B03) so that when 1.05 releases everyone has the same goodies.
And also makes it possible for everyone with a tune to stay updated with toyotas new changes.

Hey @dingel5 , does this mean you have to stay on Toyota's new calibration until Mat gets done?

I just want to be sure..

Am I on the right track?

Would this tune help for tire size 285 by any way? If anyone has 285s and installed this tune would you recommend it ?
