Yeah I figured it was a powder issue... Did you powder or spray paint it? Im thinking of Line-x'ing them for permanent protection.

I really like the aluminum one but I still have to get over how much I like the oem plastic ones and how they stick out over the edges.

Yeah...had to do the same with my tailgate cap. Did it with por15. Crap wore off from my cap window frame rubbing it and started rusting again .(yes I prepped correctly). Next move is sand it again and use the stuff you did. Maybe I'll spring for the aluminum bed rails but I'll have to fix the wear spots under the plastic rails first. All in good time I guess

Yeah, I'd look across the front flange in particular. It dips lower than the side flanges. Wish I'd taken a pic.

No, what I mean is the fiberglass molding of the shell drops down there to fill the gap between the OEM plastic side rails. If you remove the OEM plastic bed rail caps and replace with KB voodoo, the front of the fiberglass shell will be sitting high on its own fiberglass hump. It would have to be ground flat, but not sure it that is possible without affecting other aspects of the fiberglass structure, and of course negating warranty.

what brand or model shell did you see this on? I have my KBVoodoo rail caps sitting here and I'm about to take my camper shell off and re-install it all.

Probably about 9/16 to 5/8 exclusive of any other material. But there is still the outer overhanging curve of the shell's sides to be cautious of for lateral clearance.

Just another thought for the sake of discussion is that if the shell were not shimmed up in some manner, there would be a difference in cab height versus shell height.

At a minimum, this could create an aesthetic issue. At worst, if folks are using a Prinsu rack type setup on can and shell, there would be an uneven load surface that could present iasues with, let's say, lumber or similar loads.
