Toyota sill covers a joke?

My 2018 didn’t have the $4300 sill covers from Toyota factory so I bought ‘oem’ covers off eBay. Received them and they’re about 30 mil vinyl-esque stickers.

    Was this a joke?

Others I’ve had are hard plastic and 1/8” thick, not able to roll 24” stickers around a pencil.

    Thanks!

I don't understand any of your post. $4300 for sill covers? Pretty sure you get a few other things with it. Toyota is selling on Ebay?

    Being sarcastic.

My truck didn’t include the factory sill cover / dealer add on set.

Instead I bought same part number (?) off eBay and they’re basically just decals.

Inversely other Tacoma’s has nice thick (useful) sill covers that protect not just hide paint.

SmartSelect_20180713-205121_Firefox.jpg I'm confused as well. Where did you get the $4300 price? Maybe you're confusing part names? I feel like 1/8" plastic on your sill would make the door hard to close?

Has anyone put grip tape there? I feel like that would be great in the winter.

FWIW I've had both hard and soft covers and preferred the soft like you just got. Just pop up the kick plate and slap em on

    4300 is a joke.

Every factory add-on option costs 2-3x the real value.

Local dealer charges $140 for ‘door sill protection package’ (4x stickers).

Same thing from Toyota.com is $79.

    eBay is $30.

Just wanted to make sure this wasn’t a scam from China with real Toyota oem part numbers. Seems it’s real. Not a huge deal just surprised.

    Thanks all.

They'll work fine. Its just to protect from scuffs.
I bought 3M vinyl on there.

My local dealer sold me the set of 4 for about $30. Did the $140 include installation? You’re being ripped off.

As to the quality? They do the job. No complaints.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I bought the factory ones at a discount online --hell --they are STILL overpriced. One can readily see where Toyota (or someone) makes serious cash. These things probably cost less than 2 dollars to make.

Yup. Local dealer does very well on preinstalled crap like this. Just funny what a crazy spread (and margin) there is / must be.

I paid like $35 on ebay and was sold by a Toyota dealers online site. It came with a factory part number and is OEM quality.

I was thinking about grip tape but decided on using helicopter tape. It’s clear very durable and cheap.

You might’ve not looked into the description well if it was eBay and thought it was a great deal. If too good to be true, it’s chinese! And if it were eBay without a clear description, you can get your money back easily.

FWIW, my OR came with them from the factory (Canada) and they've held up well since Oct of 2015:
