Small towns worry me. It seems many of the people look a little too similar.

Im rooting for you buddy! Tell Kirsten I agree with her. I'm aiming to do it right on my first shot here. Not buying houses I don't actually want. I can rent like I am but frankly I'm not happy with my quality of life living near people so I'm shooting for my dream within the next two years. It would be nice to have two incomes to help tho haha. I'm probably gonna build the shop first since I have friends who have done that and we could build one in a couple weeks and I can live in that until I can afford to have either a prefab house dropped on my plot or build something myself. I've had lots of close family that built their houses and I don't see why I shouldn't either. I can't wait to be back in WA and burn a cactus in ephagy of this godforsaken hell hole.

I've moved so much I'm just done. I don't have any interest in investing my time into houses I plan on selling. I don't have any interest in living in houses people typically want to buy either, that means other folks are around. I can rent for that continued experience. At this point I'm so fed up with moving (knowing I have to do it again in a month) that I'll fucking live in my truck on some empty land with all my belongings in a storage unit if it means I can own a chuck of this Earth that's mine where I want it to be. I don't like being in debt to anyone, ever, for any reason. So much so that if I'm going to take out a mortgage it's going to be on something I actually want, no matter how low the risk would be for other places. That's still too much risk as far as I'm concerned, I'm one dude I don't have another person to help me make it back if i lose out.

That's the way to do it. If civilization isn't far, then definitely. Don't like the heat? Haha.

I've just grown used to the two hour Amazon Prime Now deliveries, the proximity to stores, amenities, recreation, and the interaction with people. And I do have to admit, being a 10 minute drive from Home Depot is convenient as hell.

You've just changed my life. That is such an excellent business idea - wow! I will definitely be checking them out next time.

I guess it isn't a huge thing because of liability. They must have some big bucks to afford the provide liability insurance like that.

I've never liked the heat, I'm glad people live here though, keeps them away from nice places. 30mins is a nice healthy break from whatever I'm doing, there's no traffic on us195 so that's the longest it would take for me to get what I need.

I thought about trying to open a place like that in my college town, it would have done very well given how many if them don't have garages it tools and how many if the own beaters. I may still try to see if I could do something like that since I'd be close to there. I really hope I can go back and teach, at least for a year or two though.

Don't bother. There is not that many people like us that would pay to wrench on their cars. You will never get someone to pay a monthly fee for the use of the shop.

I wouldn't do monthly, I'd do hourly with decent day rates. I know how college student are. My buddy and I were pretty big into the car scene at our school, plenty if people that needed space to bolt of some shit or change a radiator...

I was just summoned by a friend to check her father's car. It's a 2006 Infiniti M45 with a bad passenger side Catalytic Converter, and a failing driver's side converter. It's been confirmed by both Infiniti and an independent shop. I ran the codes and it's P0430/P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2, and Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1.

The independent shop quoted about $1,000 to replace ONLY the passenger side converter. That's $800 for an OEM CA Compliant converter, and $200 in labor. Infiniti is asking $1,800 installed PER SIDE.

He's had the check engine light on for about two years, and it's time to get it SMOG'd again so he has to fix it. He asked if I could do it, I've never worked on exhausts before but if it's a bolt-on, bolt-off sort of deal I wouldn't mind the extra cash. I told him to check with exhaust shops though. I looked into replacements and it's all cut-n-weld, which is beyond my expertise at this point in my life.

Here's the thing about California. Federal regulation mandates junkyards cannot sell used Catalytic Converters, Pick-n-Pull cuts out and scraps all their catalytic converters before they go in the yard. It's hard to come across a CA compliant cat used. All the ones on eBay and RockAuto are for 48 state federal use only. I looked at AutoZone and there's one for $400, and one for $165 for some reason but the cheaper one says California compliant so I don't understand why the other one is so expensive.

You sure they dont bolt up. You can get carb ones for cheap but they are universal and weld it. Usally morr expensive ones are direct fit and bolt up.
