As a former Leo I have to say I would just not drive in that area again if my bike rack was on because if the same guy sees you again like that it will probably not go your way. Ego and all he will think" I told him and he is still doing it". But, I do have to say I put my Yakima on and off my truck yesterday and realized it really is very easy to take off, it is like a 1 minute job.
Now if you want to see the most obnoxious bike people in the world try walking across the Brooklyn bridge on a Sunday. They ride in one of the most congested areas of the world and expect to be able to ride at 25 mph while there are literally thousands of people walking across. They scream and yell constantly at people. It is ridiculous. If they are in such a rush leave 5 minutes earlier or if they are so awesome at riding why go to NYC. Find an awesome area with less traffic.

You’ve just experienced broken-window policing first hand. Little stuffs bring out big stuffs. Cops have number quota too. Suck but that how that goes.

A lot of my friends are Police officers including my closest. Let’s just say that if you live in an area that is low crime and not much to do, you will most likely see/get studd like this as opposed to a major city when they have bigger fish to fry. And yes, there are some who are a little overzealous. The important thing is to try and out your self in their shoes when speaking to them. Of course you may not always get reasonable responses, but it doesn’t hurt to show respect and humbleness.

In my state we have the ability to get license plates that support different causes (I.e. cancer, teachers, sports teams) you can get one that supports police specifically or first responders. That may help show support.

Great joke dad! Now go try and ride a modern road bike without some sort of padding and see how far ya get.

You guys gotta chill with the cyclist hate. They're completely entitled to take the lane just like a motor vehicle. Just be patient and wait for a clear opportunity to pass.

Assholes who run in the street, that shit pisses me off. Get the fuck out of the street, and don't give me that look like I'm in the wrong for driving a vehicle in the street where it belongs.

Stop at stop signs, stop at red lights, signal to turn, if there's a bike lane (which most roads have in my city) ride single file in that provided lane so motor vehicle traffic can efficiently and safely flow, don't put all the responsibility for your safety on me.

If more bikers followed these basics expectations, I would consider a more measured reaction to the stupidly I see daily. But I rarely have the luxury of judging an individual biker. Instead, I've been conditioned over the course of many years and countless experiences and interactions with groups of riders to have little choice but to group them all together.

If I routinely operated a motor vehicle the way they ride and disregard the rules of the road I would lose my driver's license.

Went out to run a couple errands this morning.

Return trip home and rode 2 miles of traffic having to creep along on this 55mph road wile me and everyone else waited for this guy to finally move over and let us pass. 2 lane 55mph road that is busy as hell.

The cars ahead of me swerved pass the guy...a couple coming really close. I backed off and let him do his thing. Somebody behind me kept blowing their horn.

There are nearby roads that have dedicated bicycle lanes......NEARBY !!!!

Sorry, bro, but I gotta question this hombre's intelligence for taking such risks...and holding everyone up needlessly.

It's like really fat girls at the beach.....sure they have the right sport their new bathing suits.....bud damn....sometimes more coverage is better. :crapstorm:

Lol they make the "club fit" jerseys for the guys with the beer bellies. I wont deny you'll get idiot cyclists just like you get idiot motorists, but most guys will ride the shoulder when solo (I always stick to the side of the lane when riding so people can pass).

Really? What law would you cite? I completely understand why cars think they own the road but the reality is that the bike has every right to ride in the middle of a Lane and take the whole Lane when it's unsafe for you to pass them. Or you could just run over 6 bikers like they did in Kalamazoo Michigan in 2016. Share! The road!!! Dont be an azzhat. When i was young i thought i owned the road too. The roads are only unsafe when everyone tries to drive 10-15 over the speed limit whilst texting and driving.

I cant offer much to help ya there. You're judging an entire sect of fitness off your experiences.

I road bike and stop at lights and signs when I'm riding. I don't ride in those huge groups because they're dangerous to ride in. Most riders clip in to their pedals, so if the guy in front of you doesn't call out a hazard or that he's braking, you go down. And road rash in cycling spandex fucking sucks.

Last year I got hit by a bicyclist while I was in a crosswalk. I'm about 6' tall and 225 lbs. I saw him coming at the last minute and instead of trying to get out of the way, lowered my shoulder and braced myself as well as I could. He tried to swerve and my shoulder hit his shoulder. My shoulder was down and closed - he was fairly well opened up. He went backwards and sideways off the bike.

While I still had to go to the emergency room, the rider (who was about 5'7" and 150 lbs) was completely fucked up. I walked off on my own power. He went off in an ambulance. His insurance also got to pick up my medical costs and he got a ticket. Plus his carbon fiber Wilier was pretty well destroyed.

While he was apologetic about it and took full responsibility for everything, there are a plethora of these idiots who behave in this manner. A couple of weeks ago my wife stopped at a crosswalk to let a family with small kids cross.

I looked out the passenger rear view mirror and saw a small peloton coming up about 50 yards back. The family was crossing fairly slowly. I got out and stopped the cyclists. If I hadn't they would have not stopped. The lead cyclist almost went over in an attempt to avoid running into me. I didn't say a word to him or any of the others, I just stared at him until the family got to the sidewalk.

My wife is an avid road cyclist. However, she hates these spandex assholes who ride three abreast, don't obey lights and signs, speed down multi-use paths, etc. In the town I live in, the police will actively ticket bicyclists who ride two abreast.

My old man has a 2005 Ram cummins - pre- egr and scr. If a bicyclist does not move over for him when capable, he will stomp on it and envelop them in black smoke them he finally can pass them.

Nothing wrong with riding in the street, just do it in coordination with the traffic. If a kid on a BMX can do it, why can't adults who hold a permit to opperate a motor vehicle do it?

There is a one way road in the city that flows south from one end to the other. Last year they put in a bike lane to the left of the two south bound lanes, the bike lane is also to the left of where cars parallel park between the two SB traffic lanes, and to the right of the curb/sidewalk. The bike lane flows both North and South against SB motorist making left turns who have the right of way according to the traffic signal. There is no signal to stop the NB traffic in the bike lane. There are also multiple driveway approns for various alleys and parking lots along the route. That add to the danger/stupidity of the situation.

Most cops are just tax collectors. Very few actually help people, that would require something other than cruising around on their butt.
I respect the ones that bust drug dealers, sex trafficers, and wife beaters. But traffic cops on an ego trip can go to he//

Just this week I witnessed a rider who was riding down a major 4 lane artery in my city. To his credit, he was more or less trying to stay in the bike lane, though he did swerve to the left a couple of times...which I feel were intentional to get the Honda Accord next to him to give him more breathing room.

I was 4-5 car lengths back as we approached a major 4 way intersection. When I say major, I mean one road is 5 lanes wide and the other is 6 lanes wide...all coming together and obviously controlled by signals.

He decided that it was an inconvenience for him to stop at the red light as the rest of us had and proceeded to simply slow to a crawl. Of course, it would be way too much effort to fully stop, so instead he did the, "let's see how slow I can go and still remain upright" thing where they teeter back and forth.

Then seemingly without warning he starts to run the red light and execute a dangerous 6 lane crossing. He's immediately forced back by on coming traffic to his left. That forced him to put his feet on the ground and quickly retreat a few feet.

He then had the audacity to throw his hands up in the air as if HE had been wronged. Really?

Supposed I had tried that in my truck? Would that maneuver have been safe? Legal? Acceptable? Of course not.

Now....I'm out of here before I say something that wouldn't be prudent.
