    Stock...........for now.
G'morning folks, 1st post here so cut me a little slack. Recently changed my oil & filter with truck parked on a level surface using the plastic drain insert that comes with new filter. I made sure it was securely snapped in, but very little oil drained- nowhere near the 6.2 qt estimated capacity for the 2GR-FKS with tow package.
Anyone else experience a similar issue & if so, what's the go-to method to drain the majority of your oil? Thanks!

The plastic drain insert just drains the filter.
You still have to drain the oil pan.
So, the engine has 12 quarts of oil in it now?

Sounds like you only drained oil from the oil filter---did remove the oil pan bolt? From the way your OP read, it seems like you missed a step...

Change the filter, and then drain the oil pan by taking out the drain plug,MAKE SURE ITS THE OIL PAN YOU DRAIN AND NOT THE TRANSMISSION PAN,the oil pan should drain out about 4-5 qts of oil.

The engine does not have 12 qts of oil in it,that would be the transmission.

    I second this lol

OP it sounds like you may have now about 12 qts of oil in there which is certain to fuck sth up.

At least watch a YouTube video how to do it, gotta get under her no way around it

I get it just fine, you guys are assuming he drained the transmission pan,he may or may not have done that, but instead of helping him you guys are just being annoying.

No, I think they were saying if OP only drained the filter and not the pan and then added 6 quarts of oil he now has 12 in the engine.

Absolutely no offense to you, but you should have someone who knows what they’re doing take care of that. If you can’t change your oil you should ask someone to show ya or just fork out some money and know it was done correctly. You certainly will be f*****g stuff up in your engine if you’re driving like that. Your seals will go bye bye along with your other components. Your brand new truck may have just gotten some lifespan taken out!

Your drain plug for the oil pan should be towards the transmission, and it should have an opening through your skid plates or you may need to remove them. I have not done my own yet since I have been getting them at Toyota. But do that, change your oil filter and then put everything back.

If you are serious... As others have said. You only drained the oil filter. You need to drain the main oil pan by removing the bolt from further back under the middle section. It will drain approximately 6 quarts. Replace everything and fill.

Still don't get it. If you a really read his post he only drained the oil filter and don't even go under his truck at all.

I think this might be a troll actually

He has to go under the truck to drain the oil filter.

The other guy who said 12 quarts now... assumed he added another 6 quarts after only draining the oil filter which would now have 12 quarts if thats what the OP did.
    This is all an assumption.

Maybe the OP after draining everything looked like he only drained out 4 quarts, who knows at this point.

Lucky guy, wish they would’ve done it that way in the 3rd gens. My 4Runner had it underneath though so I’m curious if it was a new thing.

You musta had a V8 4Runner then, huh?
Cuz the 1grfe runners have it up top too

Edit: I'd take a low oil filter with a V8 over the 4.o in my truck any day lol
