I am sorry for your loss...I also inherited my dad's Taco from Wi. I brought it from Wi to SoCal. Toyota won't coat the undercarriage, and they say they wound no holes. The control arms and other
Sorry guys...I don't knowhow to post well here...Should I contact Toyota and push for the undercoating. The entire frame is covered in rust. My mechanic says it's surface rust, but I have big expenses coming up in regards to shocks etc. No holes were found. Thank you so much.

Help. I'm just now finding out about this whole frame rust problem. Is it too late to qualify under the lawsuit. I see there was an appeal filed to the lawsuit in June 2017. Can't find out the current status. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Did you read the link in the post you quoted?

I think you missed the boat, unfortunately.

But forum members are not the decision makers. Your dealer is.

For your final answer, you need to ask them.

I believe I am in the same boat as you. Can you tell me about the appeal? I am ready just to get rid of this truck, as I've gotten so angry. I do love my truck though. After going to 2 new independant different mechanics this week, they both said I've got maybe 2 more good years. I think I've been to 10 mechanics and 4 dealers now. My deadline is over. I wonder if another law firm is working on this?

The first thing you need to do is find out your Tacoma's in-service date. For an example, my Tacoma's in-service date is 10/3/2006 which means I have until 10/3/2018 to have the frame inspected. I would call the dealership with your VIN# and ask what your date is and make an appointment before the LSC expires if you still qualify.

FIRST POST HERE! I only found out last night that this recall was a thing and was hoping I wasn't too late. I noticed I had some inch wide rust holes in my frame and decided to do a google search. I have a 2007 TRD Off-Road and live in South Carolina (the truck was originally from Ohio) , this warranty program is for ALL STATES not just cold weather states. Just started the process today July 12th, took my Tacoma to the dealership and sure enough it was covered under the program, Tacomas ranging from 2005-2010 are covered. BE AWARE if they find rust holes and your frame needs replaced they will take your truck right there! You will no longer be able to drive it until the new frame comes in, even if it takes 2 months. They do provide a free loaner I got a 2017 Camry, no trucks were available as loaners. We'll see how long it takes to get the frame in. I'll keep posting updates.

Thank you for replying. Sadly, I am over the deadline. I took it in a few years ago for the rust inspection, and supposedly there were no holes. (This truck had/has been inspected regularly by independent mechanics for holes, plus a few other dealerships. I did not understand the guidelines of the class action. My dad's first "service" was 2/06 right after he bought it. It was to get a key fob issue fixed. or maybe to make a new key. I didn't realize that was considered a service on the vehicle. Ugh.

That's good to hear, I don't expect my Tacoma will fail before 10/3, but kind of wish I didn't take such good care of it, especially getting the salt off in the winter, so I could also get a new frame. If my frame lasts as long as my previous Nissan King cab 4x4, which was 18 years I will be happy.

I just got my truck back yesterday. From mid May up until yesterday we had a loaner. The first loaner was a Sienna with around 600 miles. We returned it with close to 3700 miles. Apparently there is some kind of 30 day limit on loaners so we got switched into a 2018 tacoma with 2500 miles. It was almost exactly 2 months. I got under the truck and it all looks good. There is 1 bolt missing that holds a wiring bracket to the frame under the driver’s door. Zero dollars and zero cents. I drove it home and everything feels solid. My eibach coils are still there and the rear springs are still 4 leaf. I’ll update if anything goes awry.

2008+12=2020. Yes! The deadline is 12 years from when it first entered service, so you've got some time...

So I just called them and they state only my leaf springs are under recall not my frame, does it sound right to you? I am trying to read as much as possible and get caught up on this.

EDIT - I called back after printing out the Warranty Enhancement Program pdf and they are now going to replace my leaf springs and do a full frame inspection. I live in Florida and the truck is from Florida so hopefully the salt didnt mess her up to bad.

They might be technically be correct, in that the frame replacement program now in effect is not a true factory 'recall' - it is the settlement of a class action suit. I missed the original recall, which I believe ended in March 2016, but was able to get a new frame under the settlement (just picked up my rejuvenated truck a few days ago).

There is a post somewhere here that explains the terms of the settlement (again, it's not a 'recall'). The deadline was May 21 this year (one year from the settlement date) OR 12 years from the date the vehicle entered service. If you have a 2008, it is DEFINITELY covered, and you may need to fine another dealer, and/or report these people to Toyota HQ. I brought my 2007 Taco to a large local dealer, and they cheerfully did the inspection, replacement, and a bunch of other stuff that was under recall (leaf springs and such).

Again, a 2008 Tacoma is most definitely covered by this settlement, and it's a bit weird that the dealer you talked to didn't know that. Or wouldn't admit to it.

Have you had a good look at your frame? Do you live in (or did the truck live in) snow/salt country? If so, you are going to want a new frame, and you deserve one.

Excellent! Living in FL, you might not even have a problem. I live in NH, and my frame was like swiss cheese! Good luck!

Heh heh. I got a letter from Toyota that my 2007 was subject to the original recall that expired in 2016. I kept putting it off, thinking I had a few more months, but I had mis-remembered the cutoff date, and missed the deadline! I felt like a right git. And then, this class action suit came up, and the subsequent settlement, and I wasn't going to miss it this time. And here I am in my my new old 2007 - a bit dinged and dented from an eventful life, but brand new underneath
