My 2011 DC TRD sport has hit 100k mi, and I hit my first major replacement (evap coil went out). The shop that did it, did something and my truck isn't the same (cab is mich louder and the air just doesn't seem as cold) . Fyi they are gonna try and fox it, but I did some looking around and I should be able to trade my truck in and get a new 2018 TRD OR for $350-$300/month. With the upcoming maintenance for my truck, is it worth it to get a new Tacoma? $350/mo is pretty cheap for a new truck. Thoughts?

Nobody knows what you can afford. If money is no object I would suggest getting 2 Tacoma’s. One for me and one for you. I have never owned a 2nd gen but I love my 3rd gen.

Hardest part is convincing the Mrs. Lol

I like my truck, but it's not the same since the f'd up the cab (I just don't think they out the dash back right). Hopefully they fix it, but if not, it's gonna bug the $#@+ out of me and I just know I won't enjoy it like I used to

Any purchase where the 'per month' number is the driving factor is one salesmen drool over.

Add in a trade and they'll need a bib.

One would think that the number of months would be an equally important driving factor, right?

Per month is not the driving factor, but it plays in how I can justify a new purchase. Obviously if they don't budge on the sale then I have no problem walking away. I'm in that dream stage where I get everything I want with no headaches.... Lol

Being in that "dream stage", I'd sleep on it a little more. And I would also think long and hard about getting rid of an '011 with just an a/c issue. Also, you might try taking it to another shop.

Depends how many months the loan is for too, they can be quoting you that monthly payment for a 7 or 8 year loan.

Not always. When they ask me about payments or say "what if I can get you $350 would you buy today", I'd say "sure! For 48 months, you got a deal!" I don't mind being a payment shopper, I just hope the salesman understands those payments he's quoting me are only going to be for the months I want, not 72 or 84 or 96 or any of that extended crap.

That right there is an oxymoron, I don't care where you took your English learnin'.

And anytime you have to 'justify' a purchase, it's usually means something is out of balance.

Good luck with your purchase decision process. And I hope you get your current truck properly repaired with no struggles.

I'll see myself out now. :hattip:

Not sure I agree with this. Nobody likes to spend money, yet most of us like to have nice things. 'Justify' could be interpreted as another way of saying "Is it worth it to ME?". Sounds like he's just thinking the process through without jumping head first into it. Smart move.

On the other hand, if odd little noises are bugging you that much (OP), maybe you should read up more on a 3rd gen before thinking it is the answer to your prayers. Personally I've had zero issues, but the forums are ripe with complaints.

That would be good. Too often when I hear justify in a conversation, that's not how it's used. But, we'll go with yours, as it sounds nicer.

Well, based on the amount of personal debt in this country, it seems like someone likes to spend it, for those 'nice things'.

One challenge is people thinking that wise spending is predicated on the ability to make the payments. Problem is, too many wake up and find all their income is making payments.

Then 'life happens' and they have no fall back position.

Hopefully it's not the OPs case. Not saying it is. Just a general observation from a few years of hearing the financial gurgling of others.

I'm a function above all else type of person. I looked at a second gen before going with a third gen. The only reason I went with the 3rd gen was that I couldn't justify the cost of the second gen when I could get the 3rd with zero miles for only 3k more. The good points for the 2nd gen were a seat position that was slightly higher and less tech to break. Around town the 2nd gen had more torque and was quieter off the line. Functionally there was no reason to go to the 3rd gen. If I had a 2nd gen I would not have spent the money on the 3rd even with the high trade value. More noise in the cab could be as simple as sound insulation. I would definitely take a second crack at a fix instead of trading.

I would like to have a Gen 3 as well, but right now i can justify buying one until at least another year or two.Any kind of small repair will be a heck of a lot less than buying a new truck imo.

And never, ever mention or reply to a salesman about monthly payments. Know before you go what out the door price will be that you are willing to pay. Lots of online calculators to see what a payment will be.Never talk about trade in until you get OTD price settled either.

Indeed !! To the door :)
I’m not sure why anyone would ask strangers on a forum if they should make a purchase lol .
Also not sure why others would try to push there agendas .

I say spend it every time !!! But then again I might have skin in the game .

You did your best Bill :), now let the devil persuade him that the purchase of a new Tacoma is absolutely the right thing to do :)

I kind of think he’s going to anyway !
Besides everyone knows a Tacoma is worn out at 100k
