Official Crawlbox BS thread!

What oil type is everyone running in the crawlbox, internet ranges from 75-90 through to 85-140?

Factory tcase is M1 75-90, diffs are lucas 85-140 thinking it'd be easier to stay with one of these, suggestions?

 

Off the top of my head I can't recall but I'll look when I get home - I've got 1/2 a dozen bottles in the garage

 

I use Lucas 75W90 in everything.

 

Pretty sure I used the heaviest weight oil I could find. 85-140? Not at home to look at the used bottle collection

 

Sound deadener helped with both sound and heat... one day I'll do more of the floor but I covered the openings and surrounding floor.

Nice. I plan on going rowdy when i get back from vacation. I have a bunch of closed cell foam and about 10 tiles ready for application. Lol

See a few guys running the inchworm adapter plates that have the clocking ability.

In this plate, there are a few holes that need to be "plugged" with set screws. Not looking to clock the geardriven box.

Also, are my 0° & 10° marks accurate?



None of the old threads really hit on this and spell it out, also instructions are confusing. Looks like LowRangeOffroad stopped selling these in favor of TG.

@slander @SMKYTXN you are the two guys that come to mind.

 

Mine is clocked, but I'd be lying if I said I remember which holes I plugged. Post up the instructions so we can take a look.

Seen LowRangeOffroad quietly killed off the Inchworm line they bought...Was able to grab the instruction pdfs before they go too.

 

Strange.

 

Would you mind sharing them here for future folks that get them secondhand?

Making some more progress, definitely under estimated the project. Taking the time to really make sure everything is good and sealed.




The crawlbox has its own drain plug, but the TG crossmember does not have any holes, decide to make a nice 2" with a hole saw.

Which led to this......






Then pulled the adapter between the auto trans and tcase. This allowed to pull the bearing and seal out and press in the extension housing, seal, and 23spl coupler.



LowRange vs Marlin seal. MC installed.


Then spent some time and pulled the factory tcase, split/inspected, resealed, and replaced the seals and new flange nuts. And of course some degreaser and a few coats of paint.

 

Excellent work Greg. Wait until you use it, it’s a game changer.

 

Thanks for that photo. I've thinking about two different ideas to mount my crawlbox. One was to use my Savage skids. The other was to use the factory cross member. Seeing that mount made the decision super easy. It was all fabbed up last night in about 1.5 hours. It's bomber.




Since this is the dual case thread and it is my first post here I guess I can leave a few more photo's to keep you guys happy. Full disclosure. This set-up is in my 97 4Runner. I also have a 96 Taco. It's pretty much stock and sitting at 337,000 miles. In other words, my 4Runner is much more interesting. lol

So it begins.
