    Hi,

I have an opportunity to purchase a cement 4x4 sport (premium and tech pkg) for around 37k, so a good discount from msrp. Also, I have an opportunity to purchase a calvary blue TRD PRO for around $44k (discounting roughly 2k from msrp).

Resale value is important to me because I only hold on to a car for 1-2 years (all highway driving for me).

What do you guys think will hold it's resale better, Sport or TRD Pro? Yes, I plan on enjoying it, but resale is important to me. This will be my first tacoma so I'm not that familiar with the Tacoma market, I just know they hold their value very well.

    Thanks

Pro, in 1-2 yrs you’ll be able to get basically what you paid. But both will hold it extremely well so get what you really want.

Resale value is about the same...what you lose is depreciation. You’ll get more for the Pro because it cost more. If your borrowing the coin to buy the truck then the Sport is the better deal.

% wise of paid price to resell price, I bet there is minuscule difference.

The Pro will be more niche (as it is now) because it will still be more expensive than the Sport.

While they hold value well, sometimes it's too well. By that I mean folks will chose to spend a little more and buy new than your expensive used.

Unless you trade of course. Which folks rarely know what they are really getting at that point.

Some folks would suggest you might be a lease candidate. High retained value, short turn around, etc. Or do you blow the mileage out of the water? Just a thought. Not a fan myself, but it seems to work for some.

The Sport is basically an SR5 with a hood scoop.

All Tacomas seem to hold their value very well. Not sure if the Pro will hold that initial $7k delta over the Sport. I’m guessing it would be a little less than that.

I've never bought a vehicle for resale value.

I bought them on filling the current need + a few wants

At least you chose trucks wisely as the Tacoma holds up really well.

I wouldn't pay more for a used pro than I would a used offroad or sport. If all you're obsessed with is the color, just get the sport.

I traded my 2015 prerunner with 50k Miles in on My ‘17 trd sport. The TRD sports MSRP $36,800. I negotiated a little off the price by hitting 10-15 (Wisconsin, illinois and one Michigan) dealers and got emailed prices on specific in stock trucks. They paid off my ‘ 15 and got my sport out the door for $22,682. Also the tax savings I got with the trade in was $1200.00 . FYI it’s cheaper to buy new than a used. Better deals to be had.
If it’s got a Toyota badge on it the trade in will be high.i bought my prerunner brand new in 2015 for $23,869..

I’m probably going to trade my trd sport in again in 2020 on a Tundra (or a Tacoma )if the money works out. Brakes, tires , maintenance, and the mileage I put on every year. There’s definitely a sweet spot when the trade in value vs money owed is at its peak. Also got a refund on my 2015’s extended warranty when I traded it in. That was a pain in the ass all by itself .
