Nice! I didn’t know they were on sale again.

 

Coming up short on the gas tank skid.. I never was too hot on the design of using the buckles/straps, now that I have one I really don't like the buckles/straps design.. I'll check this weekend but it looks like the rear outside buckle/strap will hit the springs when flexed. I even turned the buckle to the inside to get it as far out of the way as possible..



Doesn't look like the 1-3/8" spacers are anywhere near right for me with the IEDLS poly carrier bearing... I'm going to get longer bolts and try some longer spacers and see what changes as far as these shakes..

 

Yeah, I didn’t like that one strap location either. I ended up using a smaller plastic buckle there and zip tied it all back to the gas tank strap the best I could with a heavy duty zip tie. The spring still did rub a little bit here and there but not bad at all. This was with Daker leaf springs.

 

With 1-3/8" spacers I was getting a pretty bad vibration between 15-20mph while accelerating. I upped that to 1-3/4", to bring it more inline with the factory carrier bearing, and have much less of a vibration while accelerating.



Cut some 2" spacers and the vibration was starting to come back.

 

What about taking that 2" spacer and just knocking a 1/16 off at a time if you can until you find the sweet spot it seems like it'll be somewhere in that 1 3/4" to 2" is going to be your sweet spot. Damn trial and error sucks.

 

I think part of it is a balance issue too.. I'm gonna leave it at 1-3/4" for now.

 

A new seal ought to fix this little dribble problem.. Now to pull my skid and drain what's left of this sparkly fluid and refill it..

Sand down that rust before installing the seal or else your nick it

 

There's nothing in the way of the new seal.

 

I think what he is seeing is the brown on the inside of the tube thinking it's rust. It should just be staining from the color of the seal. If you were getting rust in around the outer edge of the seal you'd have bigger problems.

 

I remember why I haven't changed the front diff oil any sooner... That front skid plate is a pain in the ass to reinstall by myself.. Fought with it for several hours last night..

 

What bigger problems?
When I did the ecgs bushing had to sand down a small lip of rust so the new seal can slide in easly without ripping the rubber on the outer part of the seal

 

I was talking about water getting in around the out edges of the seal rusting where the seal actually sits. If water gets in you are getting moisture into the gears bearings etc. That's what I meant by bigger issues

 

After more driving the spacers didn't effect the vibration I was having as much as I initially thought.. @MonkeyProof 1-3/8" spacers actually work out best as far as the numbers go. I just flipped the rear section of the driveshaft 180* and a quick ride around the neighborhood shows no improvement... #phantomvibration

Meanwhile I used a piece of 2x4 of unknown origin pointed at the carrier bearing to set my pinion angle when I was welding on my axle perches....no vibes

 

Your angle of the dangle is sooooooooo off!























All this digital stuff I'll just buy you the angle finder I was telling you about. BTW one piece driveshafts are so much easier to get the angles right

 

Whatcha mean the angles are off? They're relative to each other... They can't be off?
