I think everything is designed these days to crumble so as to absorb more of the impact and prevent damage to the human body.

 

It’s called a “crumple zone”, its their to adsorb the impact so your body does not.

 

I completely get that but what I’m saying is how far those the car builders have gone under that “safety” argument?

Almost all the tacos that I’ve seen here in TW Involved in accidents have frame damage... I know every accident is different and I would never know what happened on each one of them.. but what I’m saying is that at least the rear bumper might been a little sturdier... so the body of the truck does not get damaged on a low speed accident.. our bumpers are basically car bumpers... just a shell... that’s my opinion of course...

 

Kills me every time I see this. I work in an ER and ppl come in all the time from an accident with zero complaints. Just coming to get "checked out". Like we can prevent you from having pain 2 days later? Or like it'll help your bogus insurance claim that causes all of our rates to be so high? If you are injured then by all means go to the hospital. If not, go home, rest and if you start to get sore go see your Dr. Trust me going to the ER will not help your lawsuit down the road when they read the chart and see the nurse and dr documented that you had no injuries and no complaints of pain.

 

^^I’d say the same. Go see your local family doc and get a referral to physical therapy if the ol’ back/neck starts to bug you. If in doubt and doc’s clinic is closed for the weekend, urgent care could always see you in a jiffy. Good luck OP.

 

Sorry dude but your comment totally turns me off. Most people feel fine then some are not. In my accident I felt fine, decided to go to a work meeting directly afterwards and the next day during another work meeting my back and neck locked up. I had to have my boss drive me to the hospital. I’m pretty athletic and stay in shape so of course I felt like “no big deal I can handle getting rear ended.” Truth is 3 months later my back was still bothering me.

Sounds like you care more about by your convenience than your patients. Fact is, your getting paid mostly by insurance and those visits. I get an ER is for serious emergencies. So the recommendation to go to a family doctor is great.

 

If it's any consolation, most doctors are quacks.

 

I kinda get what you're saying but if you had no pain or discomfort there is nothing the ER could have done for you. They could not have done anything to prevent you from being in pain or sore 2 days later or 3 months later. I'm sorry that happened to you, and trust me I know about back pain, I've had 2 surgeries and still need epidurals a few times per year. The fact is if you had gone to the ER right after the accident, nothing would have changed as far as the outcome.
I dont care about my convenience, its my job to help people in need and I love doing it for the past 15 years. I do care about taking care of patients that need to be there, the people taking up resources for no reason or have no complaint, or a say they want the accident documented for possible future lawsuit totally turns me off.

 

Be "turned off" all you want -- but in these cases --the insurer of the person at fault is going do everything they can to AVOID paying any money to the other drivers/occupants to cover their injuries as a result of negligence on their "insured" . The not at fault parties HAVE to counter with any and all means possible to avoid high medical cost later on PERIOD!
I will not argue this point any further --you are wrong! Unfortunately this is the "sad state" our medical system today -- It is a "dog eat dog " situation.

 

I guess I would have a hard time being a paient going to the ER after an accident, and when asked what was wrong, saying well nothing is wrong right now, I'm fine, but I might not be later on. Makes zero sense. Its one reason why insurance is so expensive. People use it when they shouldn't be. If I were a claims person I'd reject a claim in which a patient went to an ER without a complaint.

 

After an accident you would be all pumped up on adrenaline and may not feel pain at that time, seems like going to the ER would be a good idea to make sure.

 

Glad to hear you are OK. How many miles did you have on it?

 

Yes the ER is a good place to make sure you're not having pain.
Its not like they'll give you a full body scan just because you want to be sure you don't have pain.

Hey man,

Sorry to hear that, but glad everyone was able to walk away. Please go and see a doctor even if all "seems fine". That was the advice the I got from a first responder when I got into a fairly serious accident. Was super stiff the next day, went to my local clinic to get checked out, and was referred to get some physio therapy which helped a bunch.

Bonus, it ended up helping too with my insurance claim, but I'm in Canada where I know things are a bit "less ruthless" than in the states (at least from what anecdotal evidence I have)

OP, hopefully whatever insurance does, your check is nice and fat and lets you fix it right or get a new one without dipping too deep into your own wallet.

 

Totaled!! I just bought one salvage title with a lot less damage!! Frame was bent at hitch just a little nothing in front of hitch it was put in a frame machine and checked... glad for the price I gave! No airbags came out or I wouldn’t have purchased

 

OP... I'm really sorry that happened to you. I sincerely hope you have GAP insurance to cover the depreciation.
