Installed New Kobalt Low Profile Toolbox

Picked up my new Kobalt Low Profile toolbox from Lowes last weekend. So far I love it! It looks and functions much much better than my previous black plastic gull-wing style box. Im really satisfied with it and recommend this box to anybody looking for an alternative to the $400 UWS toolboxes.

I do miss the black though. Im considering having this one powdercoated eventually but I have no idea of the cost.

 

I hadn't considered it before but yeah I guess that's another option. How hard is that stuff to apply though?

Yeah I saw Krookz's thread where he also painted his Kobat box and it looked really good. But I doubt my dad would let me spray paint it, even though I'm the one who payed for it. He already just wants me to leave it how it is, but I really want it black.

good looking box....i had one similar on the 06 i used to have.

personally....i'd prep it good and bedline it with herculiner or line-x. if herculining it......i'd do 2 or 3 coats to even it out. it CAN fade from the sun.........but you'd wanna get some aerospace 303 to spray it with occasionally to keep the uv rays from fading it.

i bedlined my bumper more than a year ago...........still look good, and not faded, and i used herculiner.

 

Ok, thanks for tips Will. I'll look more into the herculining option. But powdercoating is the most durable and best looking option correct? My friend's grandpa does some powdercoating, so I may talk to him and see what he says.

powdercoating does look great and is reasonably durable....but it can and will chip if something hits it........and it cant really be touched up like bedliner or paint.

 

Hmm, maybe powdercoating isnt my best option then. My friends like to sit up on my toolbox sometimes and I'd be pretty pissed if It got chipped or something like that while they were messing around. On the herculiner stuff, you use a paint roller to apply it with right?

 

you can use a roller with it, but i used a short hard bristled brush on my bumpers. a roller may be easier to use for the toolbox tho.

you can get a can of it from pep boys for $30......2 cans should be enough for an extra coat or 2.
