Fitting 33" (285) spare

I hammered the driver side only

 

How are you guys securing the aftermkt wheel w/ bigger tire in the spare location? The factory spare chain mount is just 2-3 min task to steal.
I’m thinking of getting cable/chain with lock...maybe Kryptonite cable locks?

 

Definitely Wilco.
Plus you get back some space where the old spare was for some creative storage space. I put in a water tank for camping.

 

My second gen has a loop for a padlock on the hoist chain

 

So what about the tire pressure monitoring system? Even if you got another sensor in the 5th tire, does the ECU allow programming 5 sensors?

 

Would like to know this too. Only after the tire got mounted/balanced did i realize maybe i should have gotten a sensor installed at Discount tire ($60).

I’m guessing the factory spare does not come wih sensor in it since the Dash/screen didn’t alert when it was left at home.

 

Any clearance issues using the factory spare room with a 285? Would like to find a used tire to put under there just in case.

I use the chain to hold it on road . Off road it's on the bed rack

 

I mean it’s pretty easy to steal if someone sees a non factory spare wheel/tire. Just takes couple of min to drop the chain with a common tool. So im looking into cable with lock.

 

Even if there was an issue it would just throw the traction control light . After the proper size tire was replaced it senses all is right and shuts back off . The fault would be stored on the ECU as an event but the dash indicator light would be off . A simple code clearing would take care of the stored code . If a unseen code stored deep within your trucks computer bothers the driver . I have the tools so I'd clear it but there is no point.

 

Say wut? I just tried to mount a spare 275/70/17
Rubs both ears and exhaust and comes pretty close to the diff.

 

All tires aren’t equal in size.

Fair enough. It is ok i got the lowering mech moved an inch. Perfect.

 

You can get a spare tire lock from the dealer . It's similar to a wheel lock

 

I saw this.
I. Went to. My local Canadian dealership and gave the part number. $50 no returns special order from the states. They had never seen it.
Can someone post a pic of it so i can actually understand how it works lol

 

Odd I got it as an add on for mine and I'm in Ontario.

It's just a cone like part ( guessing to make it easier to line up) that inserts into the existing part.
You get a key thing that fits on the hook and that's all. Looks like a wheel lock.

I'd take a pic but can't see it without dropping tire

 

I. Wanted to make sure it will work i have moved my mount about an inch towards the rear and have large aftermarket tires n rims.

 

Also do u think it will develop any issues with unlocking from road debris etc?

 

The 4lb solution until I get some time to relocate the hoist mount hole lil towards back. So the exhaust side guide bracket is somewhat flush lol. The driver side bracket is enough but didn’t need the full love to be flush. Must have helped with the ground clearance but the space between exhaust is still the same as before. I did pull the spare towards back and to the drover side as much as possible. Finished it off with a braided steel cable locked to the body.
