The Joy's of living in New York State, where roads are salted from end of October to almost April. 2016 bought at end of summer 2016, just hit 19,000. You Southern guys are lucky, up here they rust out before they wear out. I dont rust proof because I trade it in every 3 to 4 years.Im not seeing that new 3rd gen rustproofing.20180715_164058.jpg 20180715_164036.jpg 20180715_164018.jpg

Not too late to start using Fluid Film.

OP you need to fluid film man.

That's how my 2010 4Runner looked after 3 years in VA; couldn't turn a bolt under there without soaking it in PB blaster for 2 days.

+1 Fluid Film that thing. You can get a 2 pack of the cans on Amazon for 20 bucks and you'll be able to get most of your undercarriage with that. It'll make that baby look new, and you'll have peace of mind that it's actually being protected from now on.

It’s just surface, nothing to worry about but it is unsightly. TOYOTA should have used more paint on those components on the earlier 3rd gens.

At least in the new ones I’ve seen lately, they appear to be better coated, but in the mean time, fluid film should help.
    Cheers!

Spend a few bucks and fluid film it.

You'll make a lot more $ selling it outright than getting pillaged on a trade.

And either way the next owner will be appreciative.

If I was keeping it for the long haul you bet your ass I would treat it but .... I like to trade every 3 to 4 years so it's not my problem per say. This was just to show what happens when you dont do anything any rely on the factory coating.

When I lived in pa it was the same so I would spray oil on the undercarriage every 3-4 years

But.......none of us knows what the future holds......you may not be able to trade in a few years.....so I would fluid film it just in case life throws you a wrench. Just my .02

Just out of curiosity, if you know that you'll be trading it in, why don't you just lease it?

Quick question - does the fluid film can mess up any rubber underneath the truck like the rubber bushings, CV boots spare tire etc.?
