Hey! Just bought me one! I want the grille insert but I hear there is a sensor problem. Anyone have an Amazon link to one of the aftermarket ones that come with the part?

Also what is the sensor? Do I have adaptive cruise control and not know it?

I think you'll avoid most sensor problems if you get the OEM garnish (Part# 53141-35060). It's the plastic part that protects the sensor. It seems that is the main issue people are having.

This. And apparently some of the ebay knock off grilles aren’t plug and play compatible with the OEM garnish due to lack of the flat tabs at the base of the insert, although mine was fine. Check the photos closely.

I was hoping somebody who had done it already could show me what to buy exactly. I dont want to remove it and look before I buy it.

But from what I gather...buy (from toyoa) OEM garnish, then buy one of the aftermarket grills and hope tabs etc fit?

My first one was a 96 single cab. I remember signing the paperwork and it listed 4x4, AC and I remember wondering why thats all they listed. It was later I realized that was all it had. lol...it was a great truck.

I am still in awe of the things this thing has, and I wonder if this is the final discovery I make.

I work nights and hate dealerships, so I did the deal all over email. I didnt look much at the features cause I wanted a Tacoma for sure and was gonna take what I got. Got the leather one priced and figured it had more, but didnt really look into it much. When I saw the payment and they actually had it I was all in. The salesmen for some reason ignored me for a day when I was ready to buy. I had a ride and everything. Dealership was an hour away. By the time he called I had no ride and was angry so I got another dealership to match the offer.

In the end the first dealership delivered the truck to me with the paperwork. I did the whole deal from home. Never stepped foot in dealership, and thus never had the big reveal of all the extras. I gotta say its amazing to find a feature you didnt know u had. I drove a ford and was so used to auto headlights on/off that I left lights on in anythng I drove. 2 days of reminding myself to to turn off the lights in my taco until I realized I had that too.

    I love this thing.
