U joints and center bearing on my '05 were in poor condition. It also had vibration the crescendoed in intensity up until 95km/h. Brought it in to the dealer with the WEP letter and got the truck back 2 days later, no hassle, with all new drive shaft and center bearing. Vibration is gone. I've had great experiences with the parts and service departments at this dealer and I'll certainly be back when I buy a new Tacoma.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I have never replaced any driveline components. Heading to dealer on Thursday for second round of frame pictures (guess they 'lost' the first ones?). My rear universal has about 3/8"-1/2" rotational play. Have noticed a little squeaking towards the end of a service cycle (I grease the driveline when I change oil & filter). Have some vibrations on the road but most can be attributed to worn mud tires and said tires being out of balance. Think I qualify for replacement based on that? I don't want to pay any diagnostics charges.

Edit: I just bought a new u-joint the other day, but have not installed it yet.

Truck shakes violently upon slow acceleration. I took truck in early this week for new leafs and U joints. Told 1 or 2 days max. Well, then I get call that leafs are several weeks out? After convincing dealer that U-joints are also covered and they should be replaced under ZH2 ,( I don't understand why he wasn't seeing it), I get a call that my center bearing is bad and I am responsible for it. I protested, called Corporate and waited a day to hear. Meanwhile i was told 3 times that the shaft was good and balanced, so center bearing was my responsibility. Get call today, expecting truck to be ready. Now I am told shaft is bent and vibration is bad. Dealer will look into warranty shaft now... They will have to go to Corporate about shaft and order a new one. I guess now the center bearing will be covered? It will be a week plus without my truck now...

As far as I know being a Toyota tech is that it is a warranty enhancement and what we do is check the ujoints and if everything is good you get sent on your way. Its not like you show up say u have a problem and then have a free driveshaft. We only replace the failed u joints under warranty. I never heard anything about driveshafts being replaced on this enhancement.

Im hoping I fall here. This is the paragraph =" If the vehicle continues to be driven with the aforementioned condition, there is risk of severe damage to the propeller shaft. If the condition is verified, the vehicle will be repaired with new Propeller Shaft Universal Joint(s) under the terms of this Customer Support Program. In limited instances the Propeller Shaft Assembly may be replaced if damaged due to the universal joint condition described above. I already paid for Ujoints in 2015

For what it's worth... when I had my truck in for frame replacement, I had them inspect the u-joints - they said they were fine.

I had my rear diff rebuilt on my 2011 back in 2014. I had about 35k miles on my truck. The dealership tried to tell me that I voided my warranty because I put shocks and leaf springs on it and that they would not cover it under my warranty. A call to Toyota customer care and they covered it.

I have a vibration that seems to be occurring more often. Mine resonates up the through the tunnel so I'm assuming it's the driveshaft. There's enough grease slung around under there to show that they've been greased on a regular basis.

So I have a horrible squeal during take off up to about 25-30mph. I'm pretty sure it's the drive shaft but for the last 6 months I've been saying im going to jack up the back and get the tires spinning to be sure. Still haven't done it, and not trying to get a service charge so....

    2009 Toyota Tacoma TRD off Road 4x4 - 70,000
    1) squeal at take off up to 25-30mph.
    2) If I'm traveling and punch it, it will do a little squeal.
    3) vibration, feels like it's in the back and slight steering wheel shake, from 50mph to 60-65mph then it goes away.
    4) With all windows down driving, sounds like it's coming from back rear.
    5) If I do a slow roll, 3-5mph, I hear a clank sound that sounds like it's from the rear.

Just want to get a warm and fuzzy before I take it in. Any thoughts?

I replaced my u joints with spicer u joints one year ago due to this issue. I went to the dealer today and they duplicated the vibration at 35mph but blamed the u joints i used. I asked them how they verified what was the cause, u joints or drive shaft? They said u joints because they are aftermarket. The u joints are spicer same as the name on the stock drive shaft which says spicer on it. They want $740 to replace the u joints $200 for parts $540 for labor, like 4 hrs which seems like double the labor. I asked what happens if it still vibrates after replacing the u joints? Suprised with no answer. I called the toyota care number they said since its aftermarket there is nothing they can do since its not a recall. I ask what happens if i replace the u joints and it still vibrates, the guy says we dont deal in what ifs. I would imagine its hard to tell what is causing the vibrating on the drive shaft when it spins. Waiting on the follow up call.

    You guys/gals got any suggestions?

Sorry to hear that. I guess I lucked out in that during a service call 3 years ago they told me the rear Ujoint was bad. I paid them to replace it. Now that it was documented I got new Ujoints, Drive shaft all covered and will get my money back for the ujoint that I paid for... Im not normally this lucky Good luck to you

Picked up my truck with all new leaf springs, Driveshaft, center bearing and U-joints covered under "warranty". Feels like a new truck. I was told about the converter shudder, that still exists under certain low speed acceleration scenarios. I felt it once on my drive home. I will try to avoid slow acceleration between 35 and 40 where it seems to exist. I called Toyota experience about the reimbursement for the $307.00 that I paid in 2015 for rear u-joint. Of course that is the only receipt I cant locate. even though the dealer has the service ticket and cost. They will look to get me proof that I paid them for the work listed on my VIN on toyota care site. I paid cash so no Credit card receipt.

Can you try a different dealer? Sounds like they are not willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on anything. Did you purchase the truck from them?

I may try that. I think they have to put new u joints in to replace the drive shaft so they dont want to get stuck paying for ujoints they cant warranty. Either way their customer service plan is not helping me. And no i bought the truck in tx and moved to ca

Just an update.... Finally dropped it off at the dealer and picked it up with 3 new U-joints. I thought they would have replaced the carrier also but, no luck.
