Gas Improvement NEED TIPS/HELP

Hi everyone from tacomaworld.com i was wondering if any of you guys or girls could help me out on my fuel econ. i have a 2007 double cab 4x4 i recently hit 88k i have Lt 285/75 r16 and Mo951 16x8 i have a level kit on it and i em going to hopefully move to cali next month. i need tips on how to help me save gas for this trip and come back to get my stuff and finally go back to cali forever! haha but any advise?

 

Somebody here mentioned this: pretend there is an eggshell under your accelerator. Sounds silly, but my MPG went from 16 to 19. Don't push the pedal too much farther than idle if you can help it. You accelerate like a grandma but you aren't driving a sports car anyway.

 

stay at 60mph, slow acceleration, no major engine load

Try to keep your RPM under 2k as much as possible, just did 700 mile trip and got 20 to 21.5 doing just under 80.

 

I repeat......slow down.....there's not much more to it than that.

And BTW, not another mileage thread....yikes

 

tip: dont buy a truck if youre worried about gas milage

 

Or buy the 4cyl.....

 

dont get an exhaust that sounds good. all you will want to do is just punch the throttle

 

Like was said above, I don't let my RPM's get above 2k... That means under accel, or on interstate. It translates to 65 on cruise on highway. My last tank was city on 89 oct and got 21 mpg..

 

Lets be realistic. You can't stay @ 60mph in Cali. You'll get run over! You'll also impede traffic & create road rage from other drivers. Just go with the flow of traffic & don't worry about it. Definitely do not drive on the fast lane @ 60mph. Stay in the slower right lanes. You don't have to be a speed demon, but you gotta be aware of traffic flow. I drive 65-70 mph in the #2 lane, but I'll speed-up to keep the flow of traffic running smoothly.

On surface streets, smooth acceleration (no jackrabbit starts) improves mph a lot. Most drivers drive are in a hurry, only to end up waiting at the signal light. Doesn't get them anywhere quicker.

If you have offroad tires, that will reduce mph a lot.

One of the biggest things is keeping your tires inflated. I was running 285/70/17 bfg AT's ( kept them inflated at 40 psi) i averaged 16-17 mpg on the freeway. Back when gas got up to $5 a gallon, i stayed between 60 and 65 and my mpg got up to 18 ( i also had a 4.5 inch lift) But going that slow got old... Anyways, dont do any quick starts, keep a steady pace, and your tires inflated. and youll be alright.

 

1-You can save 1mpg for every 3PSI tire pressure. Just remember you will get a stiffer ride the higher you go. Try going 3-4PSI higher then stock
2-egg thing works, and is a great idea.
3-sythetic oils have less resistance so in theory your engine turns over easier
4-bed covers are supposed to add a little

 

Haha, after my lift and tires all that gas mileage went out the window.
