Step Bars or Rock Sliders?

Hey TW fam!

So I recently purchased a new 2018 TRD Offroad.... in the market for some step bars or Sliders.

I won't be doing much rock climbing but i've done some research and it sounds like Sliders are the way to go just for the extra protection as well as helping prevent those annoying door dings..

But still wanted you guys opinion or recommendations on what to get?

so the step bars I had been looking at previously before I decided I may go with sliders are
the Predator Pro Side bars.... They look really nice but a little pricey just for step bars.

The sliders ive been looking at are the All Pro Apex


these are about $799 but they have been the best looking ones ive found so far with fillers.

I also will probably go with bolt ons because I just don't want to weld the frame.

so what do you guys think? what do some of you have? easy installs?

I recommend these. If you have no intention of wheeling, these are perfect. They're extremely well built, will still provide plenty of door ding protection, and they're inexpensive compared to sliders. I installed a set on a friends truck and was very impressed with them.

Those caught my eye as well.... been looking at the reviews and everything is positive from what i read. I like the look but not really a fan of the stars on the steps... but It still looks worth the price! I am considering it due to the fact it sticks out further than most nerf bars and will help prevent door dings

 

I like sliders, but my opinion is slightly biased.

 

You made mention you wouldnt be doing much rock climbing, but it only takes one time to have your rocker panels dented in. I'm sure these "sliders" are a great product from an asthetic stand point. But you do get what you pay for in this circumstance. Sliders are meant to hold the entire weight of the vehicle. These say they'll hold 500lbs. That's downward pressure, not upward. These are bolted only to the cab. "Real working" sliders are mounted to the frame. Big difference in the amount of pressures that the cab can handle compared to the frame. These can bend and still hit your rocker panels. May not do as much damage as if you had no protection, but damage is damage. And rocker panel damage is hard to fix. Hey man, I'm not trying to rain on your parade. It's your truck, you do it how you see fit, but you did ask for opinions, and now I have given mine. Btw, I run Mobtown sliders and skids on mine. Great product, very well built. And worth every penny when it comes to your investment.

What does that mean?

 

Taken it off road would be very minimal for me... that said I would still love to get some Rock Sliders just for the best protection possible. But by the time I order, have them shipped and powder coated im looking close to $900-$1000. If anyone knows of some decent prices for sliders please let me know! for the moment all I am worried about are door dings because I don't plan on taking my brand new truck off road anytime soon. So the tyger Auto have a nice look to them and will give that protection i need as well as steps. Like I said I would love Sliders but they are way out of my budget at the moment unless there are some out there in the $300-500 range?

You can always find a local fabricator to do some sliders as well though to save on shipping.

 

I had a set if 5" oval Lund Nerf Bars (now selling) and they worked great as steps and against dings. But I lifted the truck and needed to be able to use a hi lift jack so I now have Mobtown sliders.

Sliders are more expensive but worth it IMO.

 

CBI sliders here. Sliders for sure, you can stand on them when you wash the truck
Even if you only do light off roading like logging trails and supermarkets, they come in handy, just stronger!! Look great!

N-Fab has sliders with detachable steps that I installed on my 17 TRD PRO. I do some pretty hairy off roading and have not had to remove the steps when going off road, as they pretty much stick straight out and not down like most. If you are planning on going rock sliding then it's nice to be able to remove them if you want. They were less than $500.00 and installed within about 45 minutes in my driveway.

 

Get in on a group buy. Save a percentage depending on how many people participate. But believe you me we participate when it comes to sliders and Mobtown. Also paint the sliders and save money on powder coat. A good coat of bare metal primer and a high quality rust-oleum semi gloss paint and it will look equally as good. I should know. Over 2 years and the paint still looks great. Plus when you scratch powder coat it's gone. When you scratch paint you touch it up. See, sound advuce to getting cheaper on your wallet .

 

I went with RCI Off Road. I just got my 2018. I checked to see if they had a spare pair in stock.They didn't, but when I told them I was going to be going through Fort Collins, they made me a pair with very little advance notice, saving me from paying shipping to CA. Thanks RCI! I used VHT roll bar and chassis paint instead of powder coating. Nice satin finish, should be easy to touch up.

OP - I’ve got similar needs. No rock crawling. But lots of 4x4 roads and a functioning step for the wife and kids. I put in an order with Shrockworks through Blueline expedition. Came out to under $700, powder coated and shipped. It’s only got 2 attachment points to the frame, instead of the typical 3, but for light duty stuff, it should be plenty. Hoping to get it soon.

 

They usually offer some deals around Christmas if you can wait till then.
