Mobtown skid plate set install

I wanna join! That’d be fun as hell.

 

Can someone do a slider install video too? I'm a visual learner and reading the installation instructions makes my head hurt.

Although this guy has the aluminum skids and apparently has to change some stuff up the mounting points/hardware for the most part looks the same.

This provided me with somewhat of a visual for the mid/tcase skid which I plan on mounting up tomorrow. I just mounted my IFS no problems. THANK GOD FOR AN OIL FILTER DOOR

@Mobtown Offroad just got done installing the skids and they were actually fairly easy to do without referencing the instructions more than once. Everything is plug n play. I do think that having a reference to which picture is which instruction step i.e. (Picture A, Picture B, "as seen in Figure A/B/etc.") would be helpful. I think what took the longest for me was just wiggling around the bottom of the truck with the skid on my stomach lol. At least the mid/tcase isnt as heavy as the ISF.

Additionally, I noticed a bit of a gap on the driver's side mounting point for the crossmember. Is that for compatibility for skids? The bolt went through the hole where the brake line bracket goes so I'm assuming the gap (maybe 1/8th inch) isnt that big of a deal?

On a final note...looks like I'm gonna have to raise up the rig maybe 2 inches. Lost a bit of clearance since I don't have the exhaust reroute but I'd rather drag skid than anything else.

 

So I bought all three Mobtown skids from a fellow TW member who never installed them and I just finished painting them. Can I install the t-case skid without an exhaust reroute?

Any install recommendations?

 

It depends. There are two different skid plates for whether or not you're rerouted. Post a pic of the t case skid

Oh I see what you're saying didn't realize there were two versions. I guess I got the one that needs rerouting.

 

yeah I'm pretty sure you did. Use it as an excuse to go get a reroute. It makes a big difference.

 

Any muffler shop can do it? For how much do you guess?

 

I've heard anywhere from $70-$200. Just depends on the shop and how they feel comfortable doing it. There's a few different ways.

I’d do a straight across trade if yours works on a second gen, and you’re ok with a scratched skid. I put mine through it’s paces pretty regularly.

 

I don’t know the dimension difference. I’m assuming that crossmember brace might be specific for 2nd/3rd gens?

 

That’s my only guess, I have no idea. It’d have to be a question for @Mobtown Offroad

 

Notice this guy (min 21:30) doesn't have the exhaust rerouted and is using the same t-case skid I have. Couldn't really tell how low it sits.

He doesn’t have the reroute but notice how his tcase skid angles downward. Idk if the aluminum are built differently because those were the ones he said he was installing.

 

If anything you can definitely just slide underneath your rig to line it up before attempting to install
