    Fucking baller over here. Hobart also makes great welders for a good price. A lot of hobby welders use them and like them.

    The Hobart handler 140.

    Are you ok with buying shielding gas and carrying/carting that around with your welder?

    From what I understand it makes for better welds free of o2 and moisture, but I'm not sure it would really matter for what I'd be doing.

    So you’ll either need shielding gas, or use flux core wire like I am which has the shielding built in. On a windy day, the wind can blow away the shielding gas. With flux core it’s a non issue.

    Any mig welder can run flux wire. But not all welders are capable of running gas (like mine).

    You think it's worth it for me to get a gas capable one?

    Yes. Gives you options.

    Hobart is owned by Miller, so you get a lot of interchangeable parts and accessories. I have the Hobart 210MVP and the welding gun, hose, valve and regulator are all stamped/marked Miller. I think the optional spool gun (for aluminum welding) is Miller.

    Here's my analogy:
    Hobart = Toyota
    Miller = Lexus

    You just pay more for the same shit.

    @fatfurious2 and @HolyHandGrenade have the Hobart Handler 140. I believe they like it a lot.

    Edit* . I bought mine at Tractor Supply. They price matched to the lowest online price I found and since they had a 20% off everything in the store sale, they took that off as well. I think I paid $640
    The Hobart Handler 140 might be significantly cheaper if you shop around.

    Yes!
    Shielding gas makes much stronger welds, neater too.
    And I agree with how @Subway4X4 compared them.
    Anther vote for hobart

    I mean, I ordered from rural king, and it was significantly less than Amazon. But the shipping was slow/no tracking number

    Also, ebay has 20% off today

    I would say so. I’m still happy with the route I took though, buying a cheap welder to learn on and then I’ll switch to gas capable in the future. It allowed me to see if I even liked welding, and if I had enough projects to justify an expensive welder.
