The third gen has this too. No need to buy a tire lock or a chain or anything else. Just get a weather resistant or marine padlock and thread it through the hole. If you drop your spare, you'll see exactly what hx989 is talking about.

Ideally you only want the driver side flat so it keeps it away from exhaust.

I had to relocate my chain because the tire was hitting the diff

How are you supposed to get to it to put a lock on when the tire is there?

You lower the spare, lock the spare to the hook that holds the spare, then raise the spare back into its original position. A would-be thief could potentially lower your spare, but they wont be able to steal it without first cutting the padlock.

Anyone know what the offset is on the spare tire? Assuming it’s the same as stock so it would rub the UCA with a 285 without a spacer?

Thanks. Anyone tried a 285 on stock spare rim? Or do I need to hunt for cheap 16x8 black steelie with less offset?

^^^Better yet, the question becomes (for those very familiar with the tacoma spare tire mounting system) does offset even matter?

Rephrased - will wheel offset interfere with with the mounting mechanism and clearances (assuming it's a 16" wheel and the tire physically fits)?

So the spare steelie is a 16" regardless if it's an Off Road or Sport?

Wilco was recently sold. They totally suck. I just had a nightmare experience with them. I will never buy their products again.

I had the same issue. Ended up taking it back out and doing the chain relocation. Just need to drill 2 new holes. This pulls the tire back nice and snug to the rear hitch and give you clearance for the diff. I was still concerned about the exhaust though so I had a muffler shop move the tail pipe over a bit.

I have a thread I made here going through what I did
