What year did Toyota stop putting solid front axles in there 80's pickups?

I am just curious for a friend, he wants to get a decent truck to play around with. I told him to find an early 80's Toyota, but I cant remember when they stopped with the solid front axle.

I found it for him, and I wanted to buy it....but that would be soo wrong of me to buy the truck he wants...

 

I like how toyota did that. I know Nissan ran them to the lower control arm. Not a good idea for wheeln.

Are you sure its 85? A friend of mine had an 86 with a solid axle, ofcorse who knows maybe a previous owner put it in.

 

1985 still had the solid axle up front, from the factory, 1986 did not.
Many former IFS trucks have done the solid axle swap (SAS)

You are not imagining things. Although it is difficult to find any record of it on the internet now, Toyota did sell some number of solid axle trucks with 1986 VIN codes. I owned one for a number of years. I'm not sure if they were just trying to use up old hardware or they made a running change during 1986 production, but there were definitely solid axle trucks sold as 1986's. In fact, it was common knowledge among most Toy dealership parts departments....they would commonly ask me if I had a 1986 or a 1986 1/2 depending on what part I needed. I'm not sure if there were other differences but the suspension is the one that stood out.

 

Another thing it also depends on how the Truck was titled I have one titled 85 that is IFS I suppose one could have done the reverse Solid axle swap but doubtful
