I wonder how that happened. Any recent visits to the dealer to change the filter or what?

Copied from another broken blower thread I posted in...........

I just did this a few days ago.... Three screws (bright silver colored) to pull it / drop it from under the glove box and some high strength epoxy to hold it until the replacement gets here. I'm talking glued to the shaft! So far it's holding great with many torture test cycles.

With the three screws out and blower dropped, unplug it and the plastic outer shroud with the wires attached stays with the truck and the motor and fan come out easy for gluing it up. If you do this just have the fan facing down while drying so any epoxy drippings don't go into the motor.

Link for what I used but Advance Auto Parts sells it too.

My new one was delivered today so I think I'll just ride the epoxy and have a spare.

    thanks for the info.

How'd you get them to send you one? Just take it in and let the diagnose it? I'd like to keep the original part because if it's already happened, it will happen again.

I just ordered it myself from Olathe out of Kansas. I couldn't go 2 days in south Texas just to diagnose and then wait for who knows how long to get one in. They will not let you keep the broken one if done under warranty as they have to send it in to Toyota... It was worth the $137 to my door to not have to deal with all the hassle and the epoxy is holding great.

FWIW to anyone reading.... Do NOT start your truck with the blower switch on high. The plastic can't take the instant torque and it will more than likely strip it. I rushed out one day when I got home without turning it (A/C) off like I usually do. My next trip out, I knew instantly when I started it what happened.

Thanks for the link. Looks like I'm going to go this route unfortunately.

Drove out to the dealership to see if they could squeeze in the diagnosis but they gave me the same 2 weeks time frame.

There's nothing unfortunate about fixing it yourself. When you're done you'll have a spare. Schedule the appointment at the dealership tell them the problem and wait your turn. This exact same thing happened to mine. And I repaired mine similar to what's shown above. Then took it to the dealer and got the replacement part. They already knew of this problem and have a different designed piece to replace the original part.

I was told I could not alter (fix) the broken part if i wanted to warranty replace as they send the original part back to Toyota (so no spare part).

I wasn't able to talk to anyone technical, but received a number to call their head of service Monday. Hopefully get some clarity on if I can fix it in the interim, because these 100 degree days are killer.

Having to pay out of pocket to replace a part 14 months after the vehicle rolled off the factory is pretty "unfortunate" in my opinion.

I must have misread about you having to pay out of pocket for the work. That does suck and IS unfortunate. I feel you about the 100 degree days. I'm in phoenix and not having ac sucks. Good luck man!

Well that answers what happened yesterday to me. Drove to another parking spot to load up with stuff, then when starting it again my new plastic blender started. Taking it in tomorrow... great.
