Oregon-to-Canada on the WABDR (June 2018) - Day 1: Joe and Daisy's First Big Dirt Adventure
    June 24, 2018.

It's not often that we end up on a trip in our own backyard. There are many reasons for that - there are amazing sights far and wide, adventurous friends are located states away, and of course the weather in Washington makes snow-free exploration tough much of the year.

But when Joe got a 4Runner and mentioned that he and his wife (Daisy) wanted us to get them (and their 16-month old) out on their first trip, it seemed like a great opportunity to do something a bit easier and a bit more local.

The WABDR (Washington Backcountry Discovery Route) fit that bill perfectly!

Read the story with tons of photos:

So I have this whirring noise coming from my engine bay when I am coasting at speeds 25 MPH plus. Does not make the sound when I am at a stop. Is it a timing belt pulley ? Fan Pulley?

Went in to my local rear end shop to ask if I needed to purchase anything else besides the R&P & yoke. Turns out they are a Yukon dealer & their price was cheaper than what I could find online. Gears ordered direct from Yukon & will be in tomorrow, dropping my truck off at 8am tomorrow to get it installed. :taco:

so im getting a nasty grinding/squeeling noise when turning hard passenger. Also getting it when I apply the brakes?? Wheel bearing? I had both replaced last year. hoping its something stupid like those dumb things behind the brakes? Can I just remove them or are they needed. Im not even sure what they are called.

Just last weekend my sons '97 had a brake clip ( I believe that is what you may be talking about at the end of your post ) pop out on one end and was grinding away at the inner wheel. Those are there to keep the pads in the caliper, so I would suggest not removing them

got the new driveshaft installed and its fixed. but in my excitement i accedently reversed into a tree and now i need a new tailgate and rear bumper. im not worried about the bumper but the tailgate is what pisses me off the most. it was my fault i should of paid attention but it was in the moment where a month long problem was fixed and so forth. time to search for a tailgate now. and make plans to make an order to CBI

I’d be all over that for my 5-Lug, but I picked up a fiberglass roll pan for it.

Aren't rollpans illegal in CA, thought you had to have a "metal bar that protects against impacts"
