I put my worn socks in there for a couple of weeks and then I take them out. Ah, refreshing!

Great post. We have some threads going in other places about the Tacoma-stank. I'm really disappointed with mine. I am VERY careful with running my AC on outside air. I never turn the truck off with AC on, and I almost never run recirculated air. I also do find myself blasting hot air sometimes. I actually maintain that the few miles of test drives done on my truck before I bought it are what started my stench, and that I've never contributed to it. I think Toyota made a huge mistake in making recirculating air as the default. Moisture heaven.

The humidity is a killer, even though I live in Cali, and the truth is that this bacteria is growing deep down inside, likely on the condenser coil. I've looked up the methods to retrieve that part and clean it, but it looks like a bitch of a job and I haven't wanted to take my whole truck apart to do it.

I agree though, the other methods of spraying gunk in, even drilling a whole in the airbox to do it, all seem like temporary fixes. One of these days I'll be annoyed enough to rip the whole thing apart and clean it. I just want someone else to do it first and make a post. ;)
