Are you coming from the east or west side? I can recommend public campsites that I know are always open with shitters near or a good place to crash but it depends on which way you're coming from. Feel free to PM me if you want. There's lots of forrest land that has nice spots to chill really close to the park if you have the time

If you're coming from the East I'd check this park out if you want paid campsites. The water is amazing and great Kayaking! I took the pic below last week there!

If coming from the North and East this lake is pretty chill. Also this entire area is open and plenty of great places to just pull off and camp although this will not have restrooms or anything like that.

    Capture.jpg

If coming from the west you'll be touring the Umpqua Valley "Thundering Waters" tour. Theres about 15 different epic waterfalls along the way from Roseburg to Diamond lake. I highly recommend taking a day and doing all or most of them. Once you finish that this lake is normally dead and has camping with restrooms. If you want you will also find plenty of places to camp on the way.

Here is a up to date brochure on the Thundering Waters tour. The last water fall (heading to crater lake) will land you at the lake listed above!

Hey, lots of discussion about camp sites here. Anybody have advice on dispersed camping close to Issaquah/Tiger Mountain or Leavenworth? Looking for a place to crash overnight on a road trip and go for a morning mountain bike ride the next morning.

Oregon-to-Canada on the WABDR (June 2018) - Day 1: Joe and Daisy's First Big Dirt Adventure
    June 24, 2018.

It's not often that we end up on a trip in our own backyard. There are many reasons for that - there are amazing sights far and wide, adventurous friends are located states away, and of course the weather in Washington makes snow-free exploration tough much of the year.

But when Joe got a 4Runner and mentioned that he and his wife (Daisy) wanted us to get them (and their 16-month old) out on their first trip, it seemed like a great opportunity to do something a bit easier and a bit more local.

The WABDR (Washington Backcountry Discovery Route) fit that bill perfectly!

Read the story with tons of photos:

That's a gorgeous bit if Earth you captured there. Toyota could use that shot to sell trucks. I love living up here - it's just ridiculously gorgeous. I grew up in Germany and got to see lots of places in the Alps as a kid, but the Northwest is something special.

I think I may have camped around Lemolo Lake back around '05, very good spot. The lake has a sandy beach, and we set up our tent on it, rather than the actual tent spot we were supposed to. Ranger was really nice about giving us a warning and letting us not move our tent

Collier Campground is another nice paid site.

    WABDR Day 2: Volcanoes

...Back on the trail, @mrs.turbodb spent a bit of time evaluating
our route for the morning and scouted what she promised would
be an amazing stop - Takhlakh Lake and campground...

Day 3 or our WABDR trip is posted - our run from south of Ellensburg to just north of Cashmere (through Leavenworth, just a few days before Northwest Overland Rally, so extra expo). Read all about it, with lots of pictures:

On the fourth day, we hit our highest elevation and several fire lookouts (which were, dare I say, surrounded by burned forest). We also made our way down to Lake Chelan via The Jungle - a fun, steep, narrow set of switchbacks that we refused to re-route around as suggested by the cautious folks who coordinate the WABDR!

Check out the story and more than 50 pics - WABDR Day 4: Lookouts. And The Jungle!

As we neared the north end of the WABDR, it'd been a fun but relatively easy trip. I don't know if it was more experience than we had on the OBDR or if the route was just easier - but @mrs.turbodb and I were happy to finally get a bit more technical trail (even if it was a side trail) for the excitement.

And then, there was the excitement at the border...

    Nice, have fun! Which half?

Days were warm and mostly sunny, nights were cool. Evenings were very windy.

There's quite an elevation change, so assume that temperatures at lower elevations are about 20 degrees warmer than the temperature at higher elevations.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks! I was going to bring a light sleeping bag at first but think I'll bring a warmer one now, especially since I saw some snow in some of your pictures.

We're doing 1-3 up to cashmere and headed back west to Seattle since we're only doing 3 nights/4 days. Gonna try find some more technical wheeling spots along the way though. Always enjoy your trips; it's what inspired me to do this since I first joined up here.

Nice, that's a beautiful section of road. Pretty tame though, so would be fun to find some more technical side trips.

One thing I would recommend that is different than the trip we did, is to not take the reroute to Leavenworth that avoids Beehive Reservoir. I've heard that the landslide that happened a couple years ago is now passable by truck, and the section of Road between Lion Rock and Cashmere is an amazingly beautiful section.

Have fun, and post a trip report and photos when you get back!
