I've always liked the Ranger, but if I could choose between a 1st gen, and a Ranger of the same model years. I'd rather have the 1st gen now.

I agree with this statement and I had an 04 Ranger in HS. It held up but once you start to break them down the suspension setup of the Ranger was inferior.

This is Fords opportunity to fix that and really come out with a competitive vehicle in that class. I am not crazy about the front end design but it may grow on me. The 3rd gen did.

I remember that review. Think the Colorado was higher ranked overall.

I liked mine for 28 years. Until the second gens came out Toyota had crap legroom and no clamshell doors on their extended cabs.

100% agree. Piece of mind is everything to me. And Toyota trucks are mostly assembled right here in the US of A so that's fine by me. Many people think they're being shipped from Japan which is just so far from the truth.

I'm still not keen on the 3rd gen front end. I like the TRD PRO model, but that's about it. They got it right on the 2nd gen. We'll see what they do for the mid-gen refresh. And Ford bringing back the Ranger is only going to help force Toyota's hand in bettering the Tacoma to remain the mid-size truck segment leader.

Ranger was the #1 selling compact truck for almost the entire run it has against the Tacoma. Toyota's time at the top is limited.

I suspect the main reason for the rangers fall to the number 2 spot is Americans literally and figuratively outgrew it. It never got the midsize bump that the Tacoma and others got, and obese Americans couldn't buy it anymore. Plus the fact that it hadn't had a real change in almost 30 years

The Ranger should intensify competition in the segment, but I have trouble seeing the Tacoma’s position in jeopardy. I can see the Ranger leading the segment in fleet sales if the price point is at or near the lowest point.

Toyota wants everybody in a TRD which is why a DC v6 4wd SR is almost the same price as a trd with the same drivetrain. Just depends on what shade of lipstick you want on your pig.

If Ford offers actual different levels of the ranger, I don't the Tacoma staying at the top.

Ford will offer a chassis-cab variant. Hopefully it will be available in 4WD for those who want to build a camper / flatbed config. Note the single-leaf rear springs!
