Very true. He's had a really good life.

Not sure my wife is really ready to say goodbye to him.

But, she also loves him enough to not want the suffering to continue.

Best case scenario, they can do the operation and he continues his life.

Worst case, it's inoperable and we let him go

If it comes down to putting him down, I highly recommend having it done at home. I took Loki to the vet and had Pixie, our Italian greyhound, put down at home. It was less stressful for Pixie and the family, he never left his favorite blanket.

I mentioned our dog earlier. They wanted to do, and were pushing a $7K surgery option, with no confidence it would actually work to fix his issue, and couldn’t guarantee quality of life would be better for him afterwards. My wife wanted to so the surgery, and I didn’t think it was the right thing to do. The dog was on the highest pain meds they could give him, with little to no relief, and he was starting to a little aggressive. With a one year old son, and no confidence it would relieve his pain, I helped see the better decision.

Stay strong for the wife, as she may not be able to make the right decision, whatever that may be in this case.

Our vet once told us....animals have little understanding of the quantity of life. They only know the quality of life.

They feel physical pain just as we do. So if the decision is made to put him down....it can be made with a little guilt. We often times try to extend an animal's life not for them....but ourselves.

Quality should always trump quantity. I wish you guys the best no matter the decision you come to, Chadwick.

That is too bad. I'm not sure what's worse, the not knowing, or the actual knowing....

I hate having to do this and done it more times than I've wanted to. Never gets easier but at least you know they aren't suffering.

 

I always think of this when a someone looses a close furry friend.

I'm sorry brother, that is the hardest thing to do. You rest easier knowing they had a great life though.
