Around 40-50kms over small bumps in the road or speed bumps, I experience the worst loud sound of what appears to be my front struts bottoming out. Sounds like someone is slapping 2 small pieces of steel together, I can hear it from my front right and rear of the truck. I've taken it to a dealer and replicated the issue and they dismissed it saying it's normal. HOW WRONG THEY ARE, My father owns the exact year, model and cab configuration with the same milage and is dead silent in the same scenarios. I will be updating here regularly as I'm in the process of going to another dealer.

Update: Second dealer I've gone to today was hesitant dealing with me. I didn't even have to leave the dealer parking lot to reproduce the sound. The assistant service manager was with me and seemed to think it was normal. We then proceeded to test drive the same model (new) around the parking and it didn't make a sound. She then agreed to check it out on the hoist, they were going to inspect all the front end joints and the Body mounts which is what im certain is making the noise. So about a half hour later they tightened all the loose bolts and sprayed/tightened my body mounts. This time I test drove it with there head mechanic and it still made the sound but he definitely knew something is wrong. So after chatting and discussing my issue they contacted a field engineer from Toyota who will escalate the issue with corporate Tomorrow (July 6th). They've spoken to this engineer and he said it wasn't the first case he's seen so0 fingers crossed. will keep updating

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Keep at it and make sure they address your concerns. These trucks are too nice to have all this crap you’re dealing with.

UPDATE: Just dropped off my taco this morning at my new dealer. Corporate has given the green light to diagnose and repair the front end issue im having. I spoke with the service manager and head mechanic before I left and reviewed all the papers given to them by corporate. They had pictures of body mounts and other info leading to potential areas. They were only given 2 hrs to diagnose/repair which is odd but im sure they'll get the job done. Thanks god a dealer is actually helping me because this has been driving me up a wall! Will update when I get more info, cheers.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with the dealership they've been working on it for 6 hrs straight and cannot find the issue. They're calling Toyota Corp to figure out a next step. I've been clear to them that I'm almost positive it's the body mounts but they claim it not to be. They will be calling me back later today to go over a next step.

Mine was the passenger side cab mount. Dealer heard it pulling it into the bay.

follow up, just got the truck back. they spent 6.5 hrs on the truck and couldnt find the issue. apparently they checked my front body mounts and all was well. they have no idea whats causing the noise even with 3 master mechanics working on it. They reached out to toyota engineers and i have to wait to hear back. They've already suggested to replace the body mounts but that wasn't the issue. I have reason to believe it could have very well been the struts this entire time. I will update when more info comes my way.

There are several of these threads. Lots of people have this and some of them convinced their dealer to replace the struts and hardware. Seems to do the trick

Some say it's the bilstein shocks on the off road..I have this issue but have yet to resolve it, tired of dealing with the dealer

I agree 100% I've tried to convince the dealer but they won't just replace it based on my word. Since they've determined it's not my body mounts im 110% sure it's the struts. Waiting to here back. if they won't fix it then ill just buy all new suspension cus im tired of dealing with it

its likely just the lower coil / lower coil bucket slightly shifting on the strut. nothing to worry about.

wouldn't be worrying if it made the noise since purchase, once it's fixed I'll be happy. Most likely getting new suspension anyway but I just want to be certain of the cause.

Update: Pretty Pissed off right about now, Toyota Canada closed my case saying it's normal and claimed to have test drove 2 new trucks that made the identical noise. My service mechanic highly disagrees and can't do anything about it. I'm pretty lost right about now and have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?

Replace the stuff you are 110% sure is the problem.

    Or sell the truck.

You can be frustrated for a lot less money in a cheaper vehicle.

Since you are most likely planning on a new suspension anyways, you might as well go ahead with it since they are not going to do anything

I'm thinking this is the only option as im sure it's the front suspension. Only concern is voiding warranty

    1) unfortunately your warranty isn't working well now is it?

    2) you only lose warranty on the parts you replace. Or things that they can prove your aftermarket parts created damage for. For example, new shocks wouldn't impact your AC system.

I will say stories like this make me glad I don't bother trying to buy vehicles with a warranty. :)

Sorry you couldn't get it worked out.

You said you are getting new suspension anyways? Why not put it in now. Otherwise you still have some warranty left correct? Drive it until something breaks.

Had this issue until they replaced my front strut/coil combo. Been about 8,000km and I've yet to hear the noise.

I too thought about replacing the suspension myself, But I paid for a truck to have warranty and wouldn't take no for an answer.

    Hopefully you get it fixed.

Not sure what your location is But if you're in Vancouver, PM me and I can point you in the right direction to a dealer who knows of this issue.
