Had my old Taco 11 years and got 11.5k for it. I'd expect these to hold value well as long as Chevy/GMC/Ford keep putting out crappy mid-size. Chevy is catching up but reliability will tell. Now, a reliable Ranger Raptor would probably kill sales.

I sell retirement products for a living (mutual funds, annuities and stocks mostly). This advise is dead on. Contribute the FULL employer match. Ideally between your contributions and your employers you should shoot for 15% of your before tax income. Diversification is the name of the game. Look up "asset allocation" on Investopedia. Pay no attention if the balance fluctuates. It will go up in the long term.

To stay relevant to the thread; Yes. There is a Toyota emblem on our trucks so they will enjoy the resale blanket that the logo comes with. :mudding:

    All-Season FWD < Snow FWD < All-Season AWD/4WD < Snow AWD/4WD

I live the next state over. I agree on the performance of snow tires. But I would take any good 4WD or AWD car with good to decent A/S or A/T tires over a FWD with snow tires. Personally.

Pump money into your Roth like crazy while you're young, get an IUL life insurance policy while you're young, and dollar cost average some money in stock indexes/mutual funds once you have the others going for 5+ years. Oh and stay away from individual stocks. Everything else is gravy.

Look around for used compact cars (civic, corolla, etc). You may be surprised at what kind of used car you can get for $2000-$3000 nowadays.
That will satisfy your commuter car needs... just remember insurance and registration for an extra vehicle, but may give you a multi-car discount at the same time.

Just graduated, new job, bored at work and creating TW threads.

Just bought a new truck, and a month later listing it for sale, another TW thread.

    Seriously?

We have 2 Land Cruisers and a Tacoma, so clearance is not an issue for us. But it's ludicrous to say someone living in WV, OH, etc. NEEDS a 4x4 with high clearance because they will regularly see 18" of snow on normal roadways.

I have it and it certainly helps. People on here can go a little overboard with their enthusiasm with it though.

That depends on the matching he is getting. If he is only getting a 3% match from his employer then he should be contributing more IMO, if he can afford to. But yea, at least to match, then fill a Roth and HSA, if you have leftover go back to the 401k up to the max. Also, good advice on keeping it simple and leaving it alone for the most part

Totally agree. Nothing is NEEDED. However, if you NEED to get somewhere during one of these events (had five such storms last season over 12" at my house) then you need clearance. Wife drives a Highlander. Perfect for 95% of the snow. That other 5% is when the Taco comes in handy.

And don't forget the value of all 4 wheels turning. I've had FWD/RWD cars with snow tires--both studless and studded. Flat roads, no problem. When it turns up and steep, a big problem. There have been instances where I've not been able to get home during snow storms, because I couldn't get over a hill. Plow trucks thankfully came an hour later, luckily. Others weren't so lucky and had to abandon their cars. Had I been in our Subaru or Tacoma, it would've been just another day commuting home from work.

The tacoma isn't magic but the market will continue paying magic truck prices into the foreseeable future.

You’re right more than likely. I’ve regretted selling two vehicles. This would probably be #3 if I let it. Especially after paying out the ass for the registration, taxes and insurance
