I was the only 1st gen in the group and before we did the crossing we all opened our hoods to compare air intake locations. The 1st gen intake is actually in a really good spot for a stock location, probably as good as it can be (behind/above the passenger side headlight). If I remember right, the 2nd gens was inside the wheel well and looked much more likely to suck in water from a lower point.

Temps are actually a few degrees hotter than than CAI. My buddy has a sensor and intake tempnwent up a few degrees after the install
Not on this forum but on the Camel Trophy land rivers. I loved watching and reading about all those events they would do

That doesn't seem right. Inside the engine compartment, and you're bleeding heat from the engine, whereas the outside roof line you're getting actual atmospheric temps.

I know, I called him a liar until I saw it for myself. It ranged between 3-10 so nothing noticeable. I guess the little factory spot through the fender and above the wheel well liner keeps it cooler. Toyota knows what they are doing :notsure:

Except when it comes to 1st gen ball joints, lol...

I think there's something else going on with the intake temps. Because the air temp outside is most definitely cooler than *anywhere* inside the engine compartment.

Maybe it's because the snorkel is black and exposed to the sun so it heats up internally...

Watched the Camel Trophy Series anytime I could. Talk about pizza cutters. I think they ran something like a 235/85, maybe smaller.

People who do that should *at least* randomly post something like "Yep, totally, agree, I did that too."

its very restrictive, they look goofy as all hell, and if you plan on driving through water past the hood your going to have a lot more problems then what a snorkel is going to solve. ide get one if I was tail gunning through deserts on the daily.

About 2% of the snorkels on vehicles are there to get the vehicle through deep water.

The remaining 98% are there to look cool.

No joke, first gens got the shaft when it comes to balljoints. Maybe because it's black I don't know. I'll let some scientist figure it out. I won't rack my brain on it
235 or 255 but damn they do amazing shit with them. I want to take a class with the at overland east. I've never "overlanded" but I think of it as driving down a dirt road behind a hotel with all lights on and taking a fancy pic and posting it online. Maybe some crazy priced outdoorsy clothes and crazy camping gear to go with it. I go camping and to off-road parks but id love to learn something from the Camel guys, they are legit
