Do I need new shocks and struts?

I just had 4 new tires mounted by a used tire place. The owner pointed out how cupped my old tires were and recommended new shocks (he only does tires so he's not trying to sell me anything extra).

The truck is a 2007 Tacoma 2.7L Access cab with 95,000 miles.
I only drive it about 4,000 miles per year now (just back and fourth to work and hauling a dirt bike once in a while)

I can do the rear shocks myself, but I'd have to take it somewhere to get the fronts done.
My question is would just doing the rears be of any use, or should I get the fronts done too?

Also, if dong all 4 is it best to get the same brand all around or is mixing brands okay?

I was looking at the following for the rear shocks (I'd appreciate any opinions on these or other's I should consider)

we have a shop here in NY and one thing i learned is its not worth doing half ass jobs. i would change all the shocks and struts. even if one shock is worn and other one is still good, doesnt matter change them. from the 3 brands you mentioned, monroe is going to be the best one. they are the closest thing to OEM quality. even if you spend a few bucks extra over another brand, its worth every penny if you plan on keeping your car more then a few years. and as for mixing up brands, i would avoid that to. thats like having 2 different sneakers on, yea it gets the job done but its not good

 

If your truck hasn’t had new shocks an struts before then at 95000 miles you definitely need them. Yes do all four at the same time. Shocks/struts are not just about tire wear but also safety.
All the brands you list are good products. I personally like Bilsteins but everyone will have a favorite. And use the same brand all the way around.

 

Just by shock/coil assemblies for the front and you can do them yourself.

 

You can get aftermarket coil overs (e.g., Monroes) with the coil pre mounted. This makes the front job easier and you can do all four corners yourself.

 

front struts are not hard to do, youtube shows how with no spring compressor

 

Just put all four on my 2007 with 86,000 miles. I went with Monroe and used the quick struts up front. Did the job myself. Did use a little bit of ingenuity to get the orginal struts off and the new ones on. It can be done. BTW - the ride is way better now.

 

My tires started cupping with 60,000 on my factory bilsteins, damn near ruined them. After awhile on the back they evened back out.

 

If the truck is aligned properly and you are getting cupping then I woukd say you are due for some new struts.

However make sure your truck is properly aligned. Thats going to be a big culprit and a cheaper fix.
