No guys I’m not getting a 3rd gen although I wish I was. Just had to take everything off the bed of the truck to I can move into the new house in a few months.

So i have two updates on the hoopd....

    1. It still has that damn noise. The driver cv started flinging grease everywhere today and the boot isnt torn. Thats normal for cv's, right? Additionally it has the same amount of play as the passenger side (where the noise sounds like its coming from) and the passenger side is not throwing grease everywhere....
    20180717_180820.jpg
    2. I cleaned everything, changed the plugs, the rear diff fluid etc. Now the question is can i get 200 miles out of a tank? Wanna find out? Stay tuned! Same bat time same bat channel.

There HAS to be a hole. That grease has to come from somewhere. Even if it's a teeny tiny hole. Break out the magnifying glass

If you venture off the main road there is no telling what you may find. The main road is stock friendly if you stay away from the deep ruts. Air down before you head in. That road will beat the snot out of you. Just remember you need a hunting/fishing license or day use permit from VDGIF it is a wildlife management area. It is the Rapidan river but its more of a stream up that far.

Its coming from where the boot stops, under the clamp. Its very strange. i had a thought that the cv might be tearing itself up, getting super heated, thinning out the grease and leaking. But at this point i feel more qualified to remove organs from @LocoLocal than work on this thing.

Haha that's not good. If that clamp comes off, there's nothing holding the CV together between those two joints.

I really can't say. Your best bet would be to pull the axle and reboot it. It's not too hard or expensive and @PyritePirateBill could get you the parts.

I mean, you weren't on the verge of death. Though if that CV separated it would probably flail about and cause quite a ruckus. Not sure if that's what would happen if that clamp failed though.

CVJ offers reman'd OEM axles and you can get a heavy duty inner boot as an option.

If the clamp is still on good shape you may be able to tighten it further with the tool I have for it too...but if the rubber of the boot is getting worn or thinning underneath the clamp, then yeah, I can order a new oem boot kit for ya too @Darkgoatracer
