What’s up guys this is my first Tacoma and was wondering what yalls ideas and thoughts are? I just got a 2018 TRD Off Road and have been reading a lot about the OME 888s paired up with the 5100s for the front suspension, would there be anything else you would recommend to get as well for that front setup?

I know very little about suspension in general but it’s something I’ve been reading a lot about. From what I understand I assume most people on here would agree that is a good setup. Me personally, I never off-road, my truck is a pavement princess and the only “off-roading” it see’s is an occasional dirt road that might be muddy from the occasional monsoons we get here.

Due to that I personally installed a motofab 3” spacer lift in my truck, I know I know. It can damage your coils, but again, we are talking about a truck with 80,000+ miles, likely 78,000 of which have been commuted on the highway so I’m not personally worried about it.

I also have 1.25” spidertrac wheel spacers so that the 33’s I’m going to install next weekend will clear my stock UCA’s. I would recommend getting aftermarket UCA’s personally, with a 3” lift my truck is kind of squirrelly now due to having poor caster angle.

I’ve had nothing but helpful advice from everyone on here, again people who know WAY more than I do. I’m positive someone will steer you in the right direction.

Thanks man I just bought a 2018 and just looking to get it level without buying a full lift kit, just wanting to get some ideas. I’ve seen a lot of comments on that pair I mentioned and just looking to see if there is really anything major I’m missing.

A level requires even less lift. I personally like my 3” lift, but I don’t think it would look much taller in person than a leveled truck.

I just had bilstein 5100 installed on my 2016 DCSB set at 1.1. I am very happy with it and the ride is good, and it leveled it out within a 1/4 inch.

Why? Rake is engineered in for a reason.

Just a looks thing I suppose?

From my understanding trucks only have rake so that they are level when towing, sort of like how flatbed semi trailers are bowed slightly.

Don't forget putting stuff in the bed. Our lame leaf springs already falter a good bit.

I guess I was weaned from the whole level look stuff when I started corner weighting competitive vehicles and all 4 corners ended up at different measurements, but equal weights on each axle and great cross weights. :notsure:

Nothing wrong with looks. I guess I'm just a function first, looks second. In the past I've driven so many off road miles I'd be reluctant to change anything until I understood what needed functional improvement for how I was using the vehicle. And apply a 'looks factor' as part of improving that function.

    I'll move along now. :D:hattip:

Mine isn’t leveled anyways, I don’t tow much but when I do it’s 4,000+ #’s, can’t stand seeing trucks with 6”+ lifts towing something and the ass end is nearly dragging the ground.

In the same boat. Was going with the DB lift by RC then after reading hear going with the new 888 coil just trying to decide on OME full setup or 5100.

You can never go wrong by calling Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and discussing your options.

Shes out of town so looking for some help here.

Basically no heavy off roading. Trails, hunting, some mountain trips. Daily driver. And want to clear 33in with a good look.

I’m pretty sure with stock rims the 33’s will rub on the UCA, I know they would on my truck with the black TSS rims.

255/85/16 on stock Off Road rims didn't rub on my truck. Anything wider will probably rub.

Right. I totally forgot about getting taller, but not wider tires. In that case it would infact work, but something like a 285/70 would not without spacers or new rims.

I went with 255/85/16 Cooper St Maxx on stock Off Road rims and had absolutely not rubbing after hundreds of miles on varied terrain. Just had installed 888 coils with the Dakar pack today. I was concerned after reading another thread that the 888s might be too firm. Very pleased with the ride. Truck seems much more planted now.

I would have loved to get a 255, I’m just so used to the 265’s it currently has, I don’t think I would like the look of them being taller and more narrow. Your truck does look good though.

Is that a genuine TRD PRO grill? I’ve been thinking of snagging one of those $120 fakies on Amazon

To be honest, I was a little concerned that they'd be a little funny looking. I went 255 because I didn't want rubbing issues, having to cut into the body and also weight concerns. Looks much better in person. I have no regrets.
