Because the small front windows combined with a large rear mesh door creates a massive pressure differential in even the slightest breeze, meaning you get amazingly good air exchange. The window design is one of the biggest contributing factors in how cool our tent stays in hot weather. It's actually better than having all mesh because you get more air movement for a given amount of breeze, and because you have more shade. Shade and moving air are how you passively keep a space cool. The windows are the way they are specifically to improve passive cooling.

As for the rain, the side window design allows you to keep the windows half open without getting the inside wet. The window cover is on the inside but it drains to the outside.

GFC got a proper break-in the last few days.

Testing load plans today, in the photo I have my cabelas 20 degree canvas sleeping bag and 2 small camp pillows inside the tent with all of the floor/cushions installed.

It wasn’t easy to close but not impossible either. And that isn’t a thin bag.

 

So.... GFC showed a stand alone RTT.... that mean there’s a ladder in the works???? My wife seems to think getting out at night with a ladder will be much easier. @wileydavis do you have any GFC ladder info for us?

 

How about a way to lock the top? The side panel locks are pointless if you can just pop open the top.

 

It’s in the works. They quoted within next month and is accessible from interior only.

 

I'm hoping I hear back in the next day or so. Been trying to get in touch with them for a few days.

 

So, while we all not so patiently wait for our GFC’s can we talk about something more fun?

I’m curious as to what people have in mind or actual camping setups once they have their GFC’s. What I’ve noticed from reading a few different threads on here is that it’s seems (simply to generalize) that the guys/ gals with vagabond Drifters and AT habitats are running some FANCY and heavy goose gear broverlanding extreme stuff. Basically the stuff we see in magazines and at Expo East/ West.

Also to generalize but it seems like most folks with GFC are going a bit more spartan. Action Packers bungeed in, simple homemade platforms or drawers, basically the GFC crowd seems to be going light and fast, the others seem a bit more “camper”. Anyway maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I’ve observed.

Anyway I’ll start with my idea so far.

-Decked Drawer system/ Platform
-ARB 63 qt fridge mounted to tilting Alu-Cab fridge slide in passenger side.
-blue ridge organizer for kitchen utensils.
-Left drawer hold my recovery gear, two Helinox chairs, and a sleeping bag or two.
-Right drawer holds cook stove, pots and pans, ARB awning room attachment, and stove stand.
-Arb 2500 awning off passenger side, full room available if needed for bugs/ rain or whatever.
-action packer in the bed with sleeping stuff/ pillows/ sheets ext.
-built a super simple but very functional platform over my entire back seat. Usually have one or two rubber made totes in there for dry food and or clothes.
-Yeti Panga 50 duffle for all my clean clothing, because 100% waterproof.
-haven’t really figured out water, don’t need to carry as much as you western guys, but I’d like to have 10 gallons on hand for multi day trips. I’m thinking about keeping them in the truck and in smaller separate containers (in case of failure). Also a road shower for the roof has crossed my mind.
-I don’t have every piece of this gear yet, but it’s my basic plan. I envy those guys with goose gear builds but not only are they 1000’s of dollars they’re way way heavy.

Anyone with a good water or kitchen setup it’d love to see it! Thanks in advance.

 

If you figure out the rear awning solution you’d better post let up!!!!!! Everyone will want to do that.

 

Well fuck, I'm sold. I'll be able to order by 2020... Can I bug you for a couple shots of the overhang and a driver's side?

 

Could you take another picture without the bag and pillows left in? It could just be my imagination but it looks like there may be a hint of bowing in the middle of the upper tent frame extrusion, just forward of the strut mount. Could also be shadows being goofy IDK?

The other pic was from my cell phone, this one was earlier with my real camera. I thought the same thing but when I looked closely I didn’t notice it. I think it was lighting and the digital zoom.

Edit: I don’t plan to leave that much in there as it was a pain to close.

Cool - it was so subtle I wasn't sure. When I envisioned a bunch-o crap stuffed in there I stated to worry that it might be putting the hurt on the roof/frame.

 

The "lens" on most camera phones combined with the aggressive processing that goes on after you take the picture (especially in lower light situations) can result in some artifacts when you zoom way in like you did here.

Either way - it seems pretty subtle to me, and it's not a sealing surface anyways so I am not too fussed about it.

My bigger concern was if stuff left in the tent was causing the bend, the joint between the extrusion and the machined hinge pieces would be under a lot of stress it wasn't designed for - and could have a shortened life.
