    Lots of fun stuff
I have had two accidents in my TACO. Got rear- ended by a TT while chilling at a light once... turns out years later after years of neck troubles... I had my neck broken and hadn't been aware. Needed a disc replacement by a Neurosurgeon... after the pain injections failed and I lost the use of my right arm. I'm fine now, but that shit creeps up on you sometimes. Hope you and your family are feeling well.

This accident proves it’s working just as it’s supposed to. Frame damage is better than skeleton damage. In the old days, a simple fender bender would ruin people’s necks for months.

I get what your saying. My mom worked ER for a long time and would share some horrific stories but would also explain to me small cases they had. I think the person who mentioned family doctor and maybe urgent care has it right. Either way, piece of mind, especially with a young baby involved in the accident is all a person can ask for.

Sorry to hear about the accident @venezian . I hope everything works out well health wise for you and your family. IMO, your Taco worked as designed by crumpling instead of you and Ihope it’s totalled due to the bent frame. As many of us do, one reason of having these trucks is their resale value, so if the other insurance company opts for repairing, make them compensate you for diminished value and the resulting dirty title.

You’ll probably get a decent health related settlement as well. I’m looking forward to knowing the ed result.

But in all seriousness I hope you and the family are in good shape and spirits. It sucks when this happens.

If it's a 5.5 foot bed and that tonneau cover is for sale.........I'd like to be on the list.

That's a tough decision. I originally did not want a Tacoma. Nothing against it I like Nissan better, but I also didn't like the idea of buying an aged truck knowing a new model was coming out soon. Nissan is stupidly and infuriatingly slow updating their models unless it's a crossover.
Faced with that decision it was a no brainer the Tacoma was the way to go especially with it's incredible value.
What I absolutely cannot stand is the lousy stock tune although OVtune has fixed this drivability issue it's not something one should have to do.

I also won't drive anything unless it's a manual trans.
    :burnrubber:

I will most likely downscale to a Civic Si or Accord 2.0 first as I was already shopping for a daily driver and very easy to find manual trans. Then wait and see what Nissan does in offering a manual and go from there. If no manual I will be back in a Taco. No other mid size truck exists that warrants looking at imo

I had a 98 Tacoma that got hit like that in 1999. Similar front and rear damage after being rear-ended after stopping for traffic on the freeway. $8500 damage on a $15000 truck (new). I put about another 110,000 miles on it but it made some new noises after going over hard bumps.

Sincerely hope everyone is okay... that really sucks, especially with the family onboard.

A friend of mine just had this happen in LA as well... middle of a five car pile up... totalled his car.

If they total your taco... and you decide to part out... dibs on the sliders... and those Meso turn signals. :D

Do you think it’s just plastic back there? There is still a steel bumper behind all the plastic. Of course it’s not as ridged as a steel plated bumper you can by aftermarket. It’s designed to crumple as others have said. Crumpling absorbs the impact, so it’s less for the occupants. If you put a steel plated bumper in there and got rear ended, the truck would of sustained more damage and more impact for the occupants.

If you have the Tacoma without the hitch, you'd be amazed how much the bumper is just plastic. The one piece of sheet metal back there can barely hold its own weight, let alone any kind of impact. The honeycomb base plastic is more durable than the metal in the bumper.

On the front, they protect the aluminum crash bar with, yep you guessed it, plastic. I wouldn't be surprised if the aluminum is hollow, with how it weighs only a few pounds.

The phrase "5MPH bumper" comes to mind.

It’s called engineering. They don’t need to be solid. They are designed for enough strength as needed in an accident, while keeping the weight down to increase fuel efficiency. Also to crumple in the event of an accident. They are engineered to be changed out after an accident. That’s why they aren’t welded into the frame like they were 30 years ago

I agree. Happened to me. Frame bent=totaled Taco. My crumple zones, the portion of the frame behind the rear spring mount, bent as they were designed to.
