Looking for rear window that drops down

I sat in a brand-new Taco inside the dealership in 03 or 04. Four door sunroof fully loaded with a drop down back glass window and I was looking at buying it but seemed too much $. So when I got my Supra back I traded it for a Jeep. True story.

 

No offense, but unless you got a pic I call BS. Only way that could have happened is if for some reason they had a custom shop do it, then displayed it to show it off

There are no sunroof 4door gen 1 Tacoma.

The one you are talking about was fully Custom, roof and rear glass

Locally there are large dealers who have in house customizations

At that time, many dealers used aftermarket subcontractors . ASC was the largest company who did aftermarket sunroofs for Toyotas and Acura/Honda during that time

I couldn’t specifically speak to who did the work at whatever dealer you were, but both of the “options” you mentioned , were never offered in North American Gen 1, 4 door by Toyota from the factory.

CR Laurence makes or did make a power sliding rear window that you can swap in.

The tacoma never came with this option since it would take a complete redesign of the back wall. Think about where that big glass panel has to go.

EDIT: I saw that someone did this years ago by grafting the back window/hatch from a 3rd gen 4runner onto the cab of a 1st gen tacoma. Maybe it was on customtacos.com. I have also seen some 4runners turned into "trucks" by moving the back window forward to the c pillar.

Get the guts from a 3rd gen 4 runner and use your stock window?
I love the slide down window in my 4runner.

 

The tacos with the drop down rear window can also fit 33’s with no lift. True story.

 

I go to my local junkyard all the time and take parts off 4runners for my Taco. Especially door and window rubber. Dealer wanted 100 bucks for door rubber. Got enough off a 4runner for 2 doors for 5 bucks from scrap yard. 4runners are highly under valued
