Amber foglights or regular white foglights

Anybody have experience in running amber foglights. I'm curious to see if they make a tremendous diffrence over regular bright white led foglights. I dont do a whole lot of offloading but I do use my rig for hunts and stuff and sometimes living in new mexico the dirt can get bad out there. What's you take. Should run Amber's or would whites do fine thanks!

 

I run amber Rigid duallys in my stock fog location. They do really well on gravel roads/dusty conditions when I'm off road, and in foggy conditions during the fall/winter months. They don't really have a big effect in the city because of the street lights and other vehicles, but they make street signs reflect like no one's business.

Not for the fogs, but I have other led's for auxiliary lights. I've found that as far as the nature of fog and lighting vs the human eye..... white light (especially led white), white into fog is like a wall, you only see what's right in front of you. Amber cuts through, and makes it easier to see the road and/or objects at a low point in front of you.

I run white fogs but have an Amber/yellow LED bar for dust/snow etc. Really like this setup and have been running it for a few years. I use the headlights and white fogs for early morning drives and for the highway when, for whatever reason, people can't see me. Amber bar comes in handy for blizzard conditions. Saved me on two occasions where the conditions were completely whiteout conditions:

I thought this yellow vs white light myth had been busted, but I guess not.

 

The eye processes yellow light better as opposed to the higher Kelven light like your blues, at night or in fog and overcast conditions or any time for that matter. That’s why you see Hardcore gun shooters wear those yellow glasses to see the target better. As for yellow lights off road, don’t Think they’re necessary unless you just like the way they look. They might help you better than others if you have vision issues. Like @11TRDTX said, auxiliary lights or maybe your ditch lights would be a good option. The difference is very minimal

I have rigid dot fog light kit and run the extra yellow snap on covers. Works very well in all conditions

 

Because that article is BS. Firstly, it’s a blog not a technical white paper. Secondly, not all amber fogs are using a yellow film. No backup to the 30% light reduction claim. Lastly, of a user of both white and yellow fogs. Yellow blows the white away all day.

 

I run amber fogs from @CaliRaisedLed and they work great! the amber looks great around town and works nicely in Idaho snow and dusty roads.

 

May have been busted but new to Tacomas and new to this site. Never have run amber fogs so I was just curious thanks.

i am also using their side deflecting pods for my ditch lights and they work great! total plug and play with the factory style switch and they are supper bright. it's a nice combo with the amber fogs.

 

I've run PIAA Ion Plasma Yellows for years and really like the output.

But I kinda dig the amber look. Looks kinda old school. Back in the 70's and 80's...we all ran amber fogs.

Never tried them in real foggy conditions but I do like the way they look!

 

I have the Morimoto xb orange/amber fog lights. They look just like Nw_nomad's above.

They are brighter than stock, but I am upgrading to Diode Dynamics SS3 yellow fogs now. Currently on Black Friday sale at Hotshot Offroad (20%).

I like to look of the Morimoto amber fogs for sure, they just don't perform as well as I would like.

 

I forgot to answer the original question. Fog lights should not be used as a "headlight booster" and therefore shouldn't be on all the time. Fog lights are used in foggy/snowy weather. In these conditions the yellow 3000K color range scientifically does not bounce the light back at you and allows you to see further.
