YES it is pure profit for the company because of the #s game and going on averages of people actually using them. I will never deny that as most of the extended warranties etc are the same way. A lot of tires have a mileage warranty and if you don't get that mileage out of the tire then they are prorated out but that does not include damage to the tire that is unrepairable a tire manufacturer will not warranty this, thus the reason why these road hazard warranties came about. Discount Tire will pro-rate tires that do not have certs that are damaged beyond repair if you bought them from them and they do repairs for free regardless.

Insurance/warranty/tire certs.. It's all the same game. You just gotta play it right to get your money's worth out of it.

Unfortunately, we don't have Discount tire stores in Alabama. All of the "road hazard" warranties that tire stores offer around here are a prorated deal based on tread depth.

I ended up ordering from discount tire, and was told that they will just mail a new tire (no questions asked) if i have any issues. That being said, I got a good cut in in one of my tires on a moderate trail at Choccolocco last weekend and feel much better knowing that it can get replaced for $30 vs $250.

I think the certificates are well worth it if you intentionally put your truck in situations where damage to the sidewall is possible (rocks).

do you need the rack to be high enough to load some yaks on there as well? The SOS racks are "about" cab height (LP Advantge rack), not above, but very close, unless you got the one like @ChamYota has, the "bestop rack"

or if just for a RTT, 2 bed bars work great, and much cheaper.

Had not considered the bed bars. I also see racks too (was thinking something that would put the RTT at the cab height? or something). Yaks can slide in under as I have a goal post extender :) I got too much shizzzz.

I do need something that is not a flipping nightmare to remove tho.

bed bars might be best option. very light, easy on / off. and puts top of rtt at or just below cab height.

You could also get some of the J shaped kayak holders people use on roof racks, and put them on the bed bars when your not toting an rtt. That's my plan if/when i get a Yak cause #shortbedprobz

Bed bars that sit the tent at cab height are nice. 0 MPG lost when my tent goes on.
