Jesus i really need a recap of what i missed. Yeah i'm probably like 20 minutes from you. I honestly wouldn't mind doing the rebuild myself since it looks pretty straight forward. They may be doing some warranty work though. It's just a rear shock that started to leak after a 1200 mile trip to the keys with the boat.

Blown shaft seal on a rear shock. Noticed a drip in the driveway that smelled like diesel so I was looking all over the underside of the truck and finally found it was a shock.

Hopefully they warranty it for you...if not, I’ve got what you need minus the parts. You can do it here or at your place at your leisure. I’ll even house the Porsche so you’ll have the room.

I love my Icon's and the ride is great. I'll give them a chance to make it right and honestly any type of rebuildable shock is going to have this kind of stuff happen every now and then. Assembled by hand means a lot of room for failure.

Good point. I just ordered some rear shocks. So I haven’t even installed them yet. I have no place to brag on them yet.

Haha well even if they warranty it I may have to weigh the costs. a few weeks without the shock plus cost of shipping there and back will likely be more than it's worth to me. The rebuild kit is only $28 from Icon and the shock oil is like $20 for a half gallon and the experience may be worth it. We shall see what they say. I actually contacted the Icon rep through TW and got a response within 24 hours which is better than I can say about their service line.

Yeah any rebuildable shock will give you 25-30k on average before needing a rebuild versus a disposable which will usually give you 55-60k. Honestly the parts to rebuild are cheap ($30-$50 / shock) and all it takes is some time (30-45min per) and any bike shop will charge them with nitrogen for you since almost every mountain bike shocks is nitrogen filled and have a much shorter service life. It's all about wanting to deal with that more versus throw it away and replace.

Are you still running the Icon setup? The red car is stored safe and sound at an undisclosed location :spy:

Which one rides better? I was considering a change to King because I am really looking for a softer but controlled ride. The Icon's feel kind of high strung in some situations.

Kings are much smoother than the Icons ever wanted to be.

The Icon's don't do well with pot holes or any kind of sudden jolt. I know i drive a bigger truck but I feel like it could ride smoother and it's hard to spend that kind of money on a "I hope this works" without feedback. My concern is that nothing will ever really make the ride softer because the rear springs a stiff as shit.

That’s what I went through when I was trying to make my mind up on switching to Kings. I ended up getting the Kings valved specifically for my truck...and if you’re going to swap or even rebuild the ICONs, you should consider having them valved.

I just did Kings on my big truck. 3.0 Resi front and 2.5 Piggyback rear.

Still breaking in and I went a little heavy on the tuning request. It's still comparable to typical on the usual city streets of my commute. Speed bumps at 35 are fun though.

But the rear end vibration hop on the expansion joints of the interstate actually got completely muted out. And a short run on some dirt roads while heading up north last Saturday was amazing. Cruising at 40-50 over washboard at street pressures and completely confident and stable. Never ever expected that out of any full size truck.

expansion joints in my truck on the bridges around here is kind of sketchy its either speed up to get out of the harmonic or slow down and get over. I always choose to speed up. I guess I should have done more research before buying...

The tune/valving is the key for sure...so many people just buy straight from a retailer and slap them on without even considering a suspension tune.

Where did you get the shocks from? Do they charge extra for the custom valving?
