If it's just for camping purposes, where security may not be a high priority, you could always go with a Softopper.

You also go with aluminum is looks do not matter. As little less money and of course less weight

It's a bit unwieldy but I can remove my aluminum topper myself. And it's not like I'm strong or anything, if I can do it anybody can. And I got mine used for $15.

Hmm soft topper does not seem like a bad idea but I do want to get color matched. I think it looks great on the access cab and 6ft bed when you have a matched shell

I wouldn’t say it looks GHETTO but i will say it does not look as nice as the shell. Honestly sometimes I see the shell and don’t even see it as a truck it looks more like a runner lol!

I think the access cabs, with 6 foot bed paired with the shell looks so much better than the 4 doors with short beds with a shell. For some reason it just looks really good and it’ll also just make me feel better about keeping my tools in there. My lady says I don’t need the shell cause I drive a company vehicle and never use my truck for work, but I still want it :D

I’ve convinced her that we can camp in it and she’s more willing to go with it now

Glad to see you got your woman on board

Also glad to hear you will get a proper color matched shell

Congrats on making two right decisions

Yes well, decision number one was the more important one. It would be hard to hide a shell from my lady. “No babe the truck came like that don’t you remember? Sheesh you gotta pay more attention. By the way our savings account randomly dropped 2k but don’t worry about that”

    Problem is “our savings account”

Should be your own savings account

I have a friend who fully kitted out his Pro (RTT/camper/lift/wheels). He has about $27k in his third gen. He bought the truck. Kept it off site. Ordered all parts. And came home and told wife that’s how it came

The third gen on expedition portal that sold for $55,000 (with $50k in mods in Colorado- there is a thread here about it), that owner did it the same way

Wow hahaha! That’s sneaky yet awesome. Well it is MY savings account but she does contribute to it when she can. Although I’m the bread winner, she is a lot better with managing money. I’d probably have a extra 20k in there if it weren’t for all the rash spending on guns and cars LOL. Plus she’s the future wifey, what’s mine is hers and vise versa. Also she promised to buy me a trd pro when this truck craps out :fingerscrossed:
But based on the fact that I only have 3k miles, I think we’re looking at another 10+ years

Buy your paint matched shell. Her opinions be damned. If you have to take her PERMISSION, BEFORE you are married, God help you after....

Got a midrise with roof rails and crossbars on my 2.7 AC, definitely notice a difference on acceleration, uphill, and 1-2mpg loss in total probably. Car feels a lot better when I throw it in ECT actually which I do pretty regularly now. Would I do it again, yes absolutely but it doesn't come without an expense. I also plan on upgrading to bigger wheels and tires, so might need a regear in the future hoping that would help
