How come? It's supposed to turn only in 4WD?

 

I have never paid attention to it, but would assume since we don't have manual lock out hubs that it would turn.

 

It disengages at the tcase n front diff the CV joints is a direct link to the wheels

It rotates because the front wheels are turning. But the shaft isn't driven through the transfer case.

 

My 2001 Ford Ranger worked like that but our trucks have an ADD. If you get under the Tacoma in 2wd you can spin the front drive shaft by hand, if it was locked to the front axle/wheels you couldn’t do that. It’s proably just turning a little with vibration.

Is there anyone interested in checking their trucks for me. The Jacking area of the frame rails just in front of the transmission cross member. There should be a little gray plastic plug there and a few inches behind that is the cross member. Does the area between the plug and cross member feel perfectly flat or very slightly concave going up?

I have it. I like it as far as being smoother than the stock shifter. I bought mine on EBAY from a dealer site and it wasn't too bad on the $$$

 

I also felt like I was about to burn my clutch up when backing a small uhaul trailer up my driveway...I had to put mine in 4-low, which apparently is what the hubs was screaming from across the yard, as I independently backed it up myself lol!! Definitely higher geared than most, but I love it! I should...it just rolled over 50,000.

 

Anyone had this performed or known of its existence? Had this done without even asking for it when repairing my rear diff leak.

Holy sweet baby Jesus. I have had this problem since day one. Toyota had a regional service rep drive mine and he agrees he heared it but gave me the old "operating as designed" bull shit. I now have 50k plus. I wonder if since it was documented back at 10k they would perform this work for free?

 

Just figured out last week that I can change gears with cruise control on and it wont turn cruise off. It doesn't maintain throttle when the clutch is released but it does as soon as its engaged again. Normally, at least on other vehicles Ive owned, disengaging the clutch turns C.C. off. Just an FYI for those that might not know.

 

I wonder if there’s a easy way to just buy the parts? I’m way past 36k miles and I’m sure the dealer would charge a fortune to do this out of warranty

I think several guys in the howling rear thread had that TSB done in hopes that it was the cause.

I looked up the part and it's about $100

 

Mine keeps C.C. ON when I press clutch in

 

Might be a 18+ thing with the TSS adaptive C.C.
