Yeah, I was shaking the stuff on the little bastards hill and I thought "this bag would be great for sprinkling rub". Took my mind off the carnage I was unleashing upon the poor little fuckers.

I rarely buy products based upon packaging. But I do prefer the shaker application versus spooning out of the bag. I feel I control the application more with a shaker. A shaker bag might be the best solution for you.

I don’t think most people will care either way once they taste it, and are then addicted like the rest of us.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of a shaker of rub, but our product doesn't seem terribly compatible with it. That's okay, I don't want to alter our product to fit a packaging standard. I almost feel like it would work better if the jar just didn't have a shaker top. The shaker top suggests that it was meant to be easily/lightly sprinkled like salt, but it isn't. Not that you have to get your hands dirty, but it is a rub that you lay on a little thicker instead of just sprinkling on a bit.

The bag takes up a little more shelf space and does look like more of a commitment than a shaker, but if priced right, maybe we are okay in that regard. Oakridge BBQ has made a flourishing business with their rubs and, best I know, they only come in resealable pouches (down to 8 oz, I think).

I like the shaker/pouch combo. I'll see if our packaging company offers such a thing. If not, I'll have to inquire about providing our own packaging and the cost associated.

    You guys rock :D.

I'd try the shaker presentation and see how it works out. Many people like presentation.

I had a bag of PF. I filled a shaker and it got hard. Might as well be in a bag, it's easier to break up.

Here is what the bag sizes would look like. You all recognize the spicy bag. Standard 24 oz pouch that we've been selling. The other bag is slightly smaller and has a clear backing. In this picture, the small pouch has 11 oz like our shaker currently does. We'd do an appropriate label, of course.

Shakers are ill suited to sweet rubs imo too slow and clumpy

Pro tip if u only open the bag partway it works a bit like a shaker lol

I’ll take my pitfaced dust in a shaker tho should it become available :)

We're hoping to get that in a small shaker. Thinking it'll sell in something like 5-8 oz sizes :D.

I see a special, buy a 24oz bag, and get the 5oz shaker for 1/2 off, first order only. Then those that want a shaker can get one to use.

    Some other exciting news.

This weekend I was at a bar in Austin, TX. I bumped in to a couple of guys and struck up a conversation. They mentioned that they put out a podcast (more later) among other things. One said he is in to BBQ and cooks at least once a week. We chatted further and I told him about what we do and how we - a growing BBQ company - are a perfect fit for a guy with a growing podcast that likes to cook. Long story short, we worked out a deal to get Pitfaced BBQ featured as a supporter of their podcast! We'll be advertised on an upcoming episode (this weekend, I believe). They are REALLY jazzed and talking about really pushing our product and site (they have some rub in their possession now and fell in love with the stuff).

Anyways, their podcast is called 'Drunk Mysteries'. It is the two of them drinking beer and discussing the merits of a single mysterious story that is actually on record. Think the modern day, beer drinking equivalent of Unsolved Mysteries. I've listened to a few episodes and damn if it isn't entertaining. The podcast is young and finding its niche (like us in the rub business), but I think they have something and I hope they continue to grow it. I'll be pushing them more on our site/FB page, but I encourage you all to give them a listen:

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/drunk-mysteries/id1345038514?mt=2

If you like it and want to help them out (or us out for the reference!), then give them a subscription and leave a review (the review really helps their iTunes status). Get a couple of episodes under your belt now, then listen for us this weekend :D.

I'm not just scratching their back, here. I think it is worth a listen and can say that the guys were a hell of a lot of fun to talk to, or we wouldn't have ended up where we're at. We aren't here to sell out for a little air time. Give it is listen!

Not a bad idea! We'll be appealing to the pepper heads whenever we get that dust rolling.

If you don’t do the shaker bags, make a wider shorter shaker bottle. The extra width will allow for vigorous side to side shaking to break up the clumps.
