Its the stupid atkinson cycle crap that hinders 3rd gen boost

 

That engine also has faux Atkinson controlled by the variable cam shaft (whatever Kia calls it) under low load the intake valve stays open longer decreasing the compression stroke (well decreasing the amount compression is happening durring the compression stroke)

 

Right but when you are on the gas making boost the cam should be in the performance mode and using the full stroke.
We got a new engineer at work that came from the Toyota plant and he claimed the 6 speed auto was weak and why there is no TRD option.

 

That's a good point, 2nd gens were blessed with a granny that paired with a v8 so we gave room to grow. After market categories could help some but it would be pretty labor intensive I guess

I know you're talking about transmission being able to handle power, but anyways. I believe in the 3rd gen section. The OVTune thread is talking about turbo tunes so idk if it is doable or not.

Historically Toyota has over built drivetrains and more or less down tuned power to up reliability, so one could assume that the tyranny should be able to hold at least a 50% increase in torque, however Toyota isn't exactly as it used to be and tries a little harder to keep up with the competition these days on peak hp numbers and stuff, amd lets be honest, if they can save money somewhere (like not way over building a granny, or using plastic screw rivet things to hold from in...) They probably will.

Forced induction to a NA vehicle always requires a good bit of modification, but it does help if the drive train was beefy to begin with

 

Learned something.. this thing has same trans as 450hp raptor and it's beautiful

I'm off for 3 days. Waiting for the body shop to open so I can figure out what needs to be done about my TJ. Safeway(guy that hit me) gave me a $1500 quote, my body shop gave a 12K quote. The fucksticks aren't wanting to pay. They also are 3 weeks behind on my rental and owe for the initial tow and storage. Im glad by best friend is a lawyer. I'm pretty sure he's gonna have to file suit on them.

 

What you are describing is called "Value Engineering" and Toyota is neck deep in it right now.

Basically they look at components and engineer them to the same specifications (i.e. if the engine makes 250 ft lbs of tq, and the trans is capable of handling 400 ft lbs they will redesign the trans to only be capable of 250 to make it cheaper)
