DIY prinsu style shell rack

Soon. Very soon. I also need to replace the bolts that hold it to the shell with something black. The SS sticks out too much.

Since you're not using the M6 anchor plates (M6 black SS is hard to find), you could simply use button head black SS screws with washer/nut on the inside.

if you only need smallish qty, let me know I'll ship in the mail... much cheaper than their shipping charges (minimum order is quite a lot). I have multiple length of bolts and nuts in black.

I have thick flat washers too (not black though) that you could use on the inside, would be better than the thin ones used on a perfectly flat surface.

 

be careful as those feet works well if there is not much roll or pitch (there should be no yaw since they are parallel). another member made a set but there was not enough adjustment for his setup. On my ARE, the front and back mounts are sloped outwards in two directions.

There could be a way to make them correct for both, I am currently looking at a solution that would fix both. The end goal is a mount that costs less than smittybilt and has adjustment.

How did you round the ends of the aluminum plate?

 

i just cut them close then use a flap wheel on a grinder to get them round.

I will be interested in seeing a foot design to mount the T-slot. I have slightly unique needs for a rack...so...I will probably make something myself...but so far I don't have a good mounting option. If you come up with a good idea that is reasonably priced...I will be very interested in it.

We have a working session Friday but already sharing ideas and sketches.

It's not easy to compensate pitch/roll and avoid putting stress in bolts.

 

Something like this could work. Top piece attaches to rack bars. Round bar is slotted in the middle to accept the top piece and allow it to pivot fore and aft. It also has the holes for the track v-shaped to allow the round bar to roll in the cradle as the roof tilts.

 

Which tepui is that and what length are your cross bars?

 

Doesn’t help with height difference of the rails from front to back.
