Question for those of you using this unit:

When you have an incoming call, does it display the name of the person that is calling? Or if you make an outgoing call, using the phone to dial, does it display the same of the person?

Mine does not, and I cannot figure out why.....(I have transferred my contacts to the unit)

    Thanks,

When I receive a call it will display the name I used on the contacts for that number.

    @epa4wd

How did you get up to the top tier of buttons where you mounted your mic?

Also, how hard was it to "gut" out the black button, did you dremel it?

Its not hard to get there, I removed the blank drilling a small hole in it (since I would be making a larger hole in it anyway) then pulled it out with an L shape allen key . When you take it out look in with a flashlight you'll see clearly how to get to it.

Yes I used a dremel, most of the dremmeling is on the back of the blank, it has a lot of plastic crap that needs to be cut out to be able to push the mic trough. I used the thin sand barrel attachment.

I can take it out on Thursday or Friday and snap a couple of pics of the blank, if you want to.

I never thought about the Allen key idea. I was more concerned about getting the blank out then getting the mic up there. If you're cool with snapping a few pics that's cool.

I'm actually debating between getting a x710bt or the new x920bt. I also don't know if I want to run my mic to your location (would look more OEM) or up above the rear-view mirror attached to the head liner.

I haven't forgot about the pics. I had my eyes dilated today so my vision is still kind of blurry. I will take the pictures later today.

    Thank you!

One question though, are the holes in pics 10 and 11 there because that's what happens when you gut it out, or is there something that needs that space?

Dremeling that was unnecessary, but let me explain why I did it.
If you look at the pic of the grommet (#17) you will see that I cut it in half. Without cutting it when you look at it from the side it would look like this |-|

When I first started to make the hole in the blank, I had not modified the grommet and I was trying to snap the grommet in the hole I had made in the blank but I was unsuccessful. I thought that the reason that I was unable to snap the grommet in place was due to the "walls" that you pointed I cut out in pics 10 and 11. Since the mic. hole diameter is pretty much the same as the distance between this two walls, I thought that the issue preventing me to snap the grommet in place was these walls. After I cut the walls as you see in pics 10 and 11, I was still unable to snap the grommet in place. So after looking closely to the hole I realized I'm stupid lol :p, the reason the grommet did not snap in to place is because the thickness of the hole is to big for the grommet (picture 15) to snap in. At this point I was thinking that I was not going to be able to make it work so as a last resort I cut the grommet in half as you see in pics 17 & 19. I thought that by cutting the grommet in half it would now simply fall of since there is nothing keeping it in place. To my surprise when I inserted the mic in to the grommet it obviously stretched a bit (since the grommet hole is a little smaller) when I pushed it in to the hole in the blank it fits so tightly in it that it does not fall off, so basically the mic. with the grommet is kept in place by pressure. Believe me it won't fall off, even for taking it out today I had to push it a bit hard to remove it. I will later change the grommet, I will cut it a bit differently for some extra strength. I hope my explanation was understandable lol

Yeah I understand, at first I thought you meant you cut a whole in the circular portion of the grommet, now I understand what you meant by cutting it in half. It is designed to go through a substance like the firewall, then come out the other side the exact way it came in, but since we only have 1 in and no out, you cut it in half right?

Yes thats what I meant, the no out is due to the plastic being to thick for the grommet. I don't know if there are thicker grommets that may work.

searching around maybe instead of a grommet a snap bushing could work. I'm going to see if I can find a kit at pepboys or something.

A grommet would be alright, I think it looks pretty much stock the way you have it, and that's what I'm gunning for is a great aftermarket system that looks as clean as possible.

I will be changing the usb port to one of the blanks below the A/C Panel.
I did it the same way as the Mic. used a dremel to make a hole a bit larger than the usb (rectangular hole with rounded corners). Snapped a rubber grommet along with the usb cable. It is very tight it won't move forward or backwards, but for extra security I will be doing something behind the blank.

btw anyone has the part number for these blanks???

Finally decided to get one of these. I got it for the $274.99 price. After I bought it I checked the website and it is now $299.95.
I have noticed a "lag" with the GPS.
Anyone else have a "lag" with the GPS?
The location is off by several seconds. You will pass a road and the GPS does not show you passing it for about 5 more seconds.
