How much would you sell something like that for?

Great work, I always am impressed by nice fabrication. So many little talents required to make even the simplest things, and a lot of skill to make them look nice. Things that are at this point beyond me since I can barely cut wood in a straight line.

Jeez, do you even weld, brah?

That trailer came out great! How much of a process is it to get a homemade trailer registered in the People's Republik?

Also, any chance you can weld aluminum? I'm contemplating a side project that I'll need to hire someone to weld up. Thinking about an aluminum frame but need to do some more homework to make sure aluminum is the right material for the job. I might have to go steel.

I've got a "homebuilt" trailer. It was easy. You just need a BOM with prices and an extra form and you're good so long as gvw is under I think 1k # it doesn't need a title. If over 1k you'll need to get a VIN/ title assigned too

Thank you for the kind words. Building a trailer like this one to sell probably wouldn’t be practical. I spent a lot of extra time with the details and such. I think the right answer would be that a trailer of the same dimensions and weight capacity can be bought for about 3800-4000 range. Some manufacturers are more detailed and more features etc, hence more expensive. To have a welder scratch build a trailer would cost way more. Wouldn’t be worth it to the guy buying.

Not sure if that makes sense. It works for me because I don’t charge myself lol

It makes plenty of sense! When the labor is free, everything gets a lot cheaper!

Seth is correct with the process. Only difference is that 3000 lbs is the cap. You can register a homemade trailer with a BOM and some receipts without a title. 3001 and up you need a title, or certificate of origin.

Now, if you needed a title for a homemade because it was over 3k, which that trailer would be, you would have to schedule an inspection at a DOT facility that does reconstructed titles on salvaged vehicles. They inspect everything and make sure your legal and have all the safety equipment such as break away switch, electric brakes, etc. as long as you meet the criteria they will issue a VIN.

Yea I think you got this.. haha I'll shoot you a message next month to get the plates welded on - might also be interested in something a bit more custom for fender bars if you're interested in it. I'll be in touch - awesome work on the trailer too!

Sorry Mike, was just reading back a little and realized I didn’t even answer your question. Got carried away with the trailer registration stuff........

Yes, I do weld aluminum if needed. I have a separate MIG setup for that. I generally do thicker aluminum. My setup burns right through thin stuff. Couldn’t justify a TIG setup to only use once in a while. Let me know.
