@PinnaclePete , is your tree equipment business a DBA or an LLC?

Cool I just started an LLC myself, any pointers? I wanted a dba, but a DBA can't claim overseas income. Plus with a helicopter on the way, the LLC has way more protection than a dba

Funny, I was thinking about forming an LLC last night for my commercial pilot services, but I'm not entirely sure what the benefit would be

LLC keeps any liability on the "company", not on you, your home, your family, etc. Limits the Deep Pockets lawsuits. I would think if you own the plane/helicopter and lease/rent it to the LLC, you would protect that asset too. That's what I do with my truck. :gossip:

A lawyer friend of the family didn't think it would make a difference because he said someone would sue the LLC and then just sue the owner of the LLC. He basically said I'll get sued either way if I crash the plane

When it comes to helicopters....It's not if, it's when. Maybe it won't be too bad, maybe it will.

    Yeah.
    @MatthewMay1 @Bell214b

My favorite aviation quote by Harry Reasoner:

"The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by its
nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual
events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter
does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces
and controls working in opposition to each other, and if there is any
disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying,
    immediately and disastrously.
There is no such thing as a gliding helicopter.
This is why being a helicopter pilot is so different from being an
airplane pilot, and why, in general, airplane pilots are open, clear-eyed,
bouyant extroverts, and helicopter pilots are brooders, introspective
anticipators of trouble. They know if something bad has not happened, it
    is about to."

Lol. The only thing wrong with it is helicopters actually glide quite nice, although not very far. Everything else is true. One time I stirred up a Walmart bag and it got caught on the end of a blade, I thought my bottom jaw was gonna fall out it was shaking so bad during shutdown.

This is what power grid looks like in Little Rock this morning. NWS said winds hit 80 mph and upwards of 40k without power. I got my generator running, and hope all are safe with no damage. I lost a couple trees but got lucky compared to some.

    Yeah.
Wow, we got some hail up here, but winds were not that bad. The storm that capsized the Duck Boat the evening before barely missed us. Crazy weather, hope ya'll get your power back on. Lots of tree work will be needed, maybe that's good for Pete.

    Yeah.
Hopefully everyone has power back on, checked the map and it looks better, but still a lot of lines out.

Got my missing clamps for the air bag kit fabricated and installed over the weekend, so that install is officially complete.

Figured out an easy rack mount for the Hi Lift (couple of long bolts, wing nuts, etc.), and I put Quick Fists on the other side for an axe and a real shovel (one that requires no special knowledge to assemble). The Hi Lift is bigger and heavier than I imagined, and the winching kit with additional chain adds even more weight, so the air bags will definitely be a help. Also got a kinetic recovery rope. So for the most part, I think recovery gear is done for now. I'm sure the first time I have to winch with the Hi Lift will have me looking at winches, though.

Picked up a NATO 20L jerry can and was looking at ways to secure it. My camping gear pretty much fills the bed, so I ordered a holder for it that I think I can mount to the underside/inside of the rack above my stuff. Figuring that out is the next project. Then I think I am done for now.

I can now see how having a front winch bumper and rear swing out bumper improves utility and simplifies things. Of course, that means upgraded suspension as well. Maybe once I wear out this Pro suspension . . .
