I've been having a weird issue. Every once and a while, I'll go up to the truck and touch the handle to unlock but no sound. No unlock sounds. I pull the handle and it's already unlocked. I'm 100% sure I locked it before and I have the auto-lock on even if I forgot.

It seems to happen randomly. Sometimes during the day at work. Sometimes overnight.

Any idea what might be causing this? Does techstream keep a log of unlock events and what triggered them?

    Auto locking applies to:
    1) When shifted from/to Park (OM page 115-116)
    2) When unlocked and a door isn't opened (OM page 652-654)

There is no auto lock that secures the truck when you park and walk away...action must be taken, e.g. touching the door sensor or fob button.

No, I believe the OP is saying it’s auto-unlocking. Not auto-locking.

I’ve never had this problem cause I don’t have all that fancy stuff in my truck. I use my key to unlock. Sorry I’m of no help, but hopefully this post will bump the thread to see if others have had the same problem.

Is the key fob far away from the truck when parked?

That’s now how I understood it. I read it the same way @TailHook did. That the OP expects the car to lock itself regardless. However, with that said what I think is happening here is with the expectation, the OP assumes the car will auto lock itself, but doesn’t realize that if a door has been opened once when it was unlock then door shut, it will never auto lock itself. The auto lock itself is if you unlock the vehicle but never open a door and after a preset amount of time the vehicle WILL lock itself. This sounds like a case of OP misunderstanding and just isn’t manually relocating after opening a door or exiting the vehicle, which explains no sound, and vehicle still unlocked.

Also, is the key fob in your pocket possibly being bumped? I have my fob on a lanyard specifically for this reason.

    this brings up a question:
I wonder why they didnt implement "auto-lock when walk away" like my mazda 6 (and many other cars) have..
the truck can obviously detect when the key is nearby, because it turns on the lights. They have all the technology in place to enable this feature...i really wish it had this. Its nice to walk away from my mazda after closing the door and hearing the two beeps telling me it auto-locked.

I read it as trouble with the door handle touch-to-unlock thingamajiger. (I know there’s a more technical name, but my brain fails me)

    OP, what’s going on here?

Or........somebody has a pocket scanner thingy that allows them to break into cars without your key.....start disabling your fob.....the signal won’t be transmitting.

Exactly...thanks for the additional detail. Need more coffee...

Agreed! The tech is there, but not the feature...I was a bit surprised that it wouldn't do that.

Actually there is an auto-lock feature.
■Security feature (vehicles with a wireless remote control or smart key system) If a door is not opened within approximately 60 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.

    So more info:
When I'm at work, the fob is in my pocket but I'm like 150 feet away, in a building.
At night, it's about 40 feet away in my house near the front door. It *shouldn't* be in range. I could move it further in the house to test, but it's random at best. Maybe once every week or two.

I thought about key scanners but it happened at work (another city 20 miles away) randomly.

That's what was mentioned earlier. That's in place so if you accidentally hit unlock, it'll relock itself. Even me '05 has it. That's the only time it'll lock itself.

Right, that's what I was referring to...you have to lock with all doors closed, unlock, then do nothing to engage that feature...consider it a "re-lock" versus "auto lock".

I typically hit the lock button on the fob twice. Once to lock and a second time to turn the lights off (yeah yeah, I know they turn of automatically). I have the pop-n-lock so I can hear the loud thunk of it locking the first go around.

So you guys are saying that if it unlocked itself, the auto-locking feature wouldn't work unless someone opened the door and closed it back? Seems kinda bad in cases of accidental unlocking right?

If that's not the case, then something is unlocking my truck. Just trying to nail down what is doing it.

no, the auto lock will lock if you accidentally hit the unlock button in your pocket and dont actually open a door..in that case it will re-lock

So, that would rule out they key fob. If it was in my pocket and hit the unlock button, it would re-lock itself after x minutes. What else could be doing it?

I’m really thinking crooks with scanners now. Going through parking lots at work places, and people skulking around your neighborhood.
